In the role of Assistant Civil Construction Inspector (Highways & Roads), we'll count on you to perform the following functions and responsibilities:
Assist the Caltrans Resident Engineer in all aspects of required field and office engineering work including, but not limited to the following: inspection of non-structural construction operations; inspection of traffic control system compliance; contract change order (CCO) preparation, review, and analysis; and Water Pollution Control Program (Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan) enforcement.
Review, inspect, and approve traffic control systems, including lane closures, in accordance with Caltrans' standards and requirements.
Have knowledge and experience with equipment used in roadway construction inspection, surveying, field testing of construction materials, and construction office engineering.
Have knowledge of computers, computer applications, and computer software programs such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and others); Critical Path Method (CPM) software such as Primavera Project Planner (P3, P6) and SureTrak, or any updated version, as a minimum; Scheduler Analyzer Pro; and Microsoft Project.
Have knowledge and experience with principles of effective communication and supervision.
Have knowledge and experience with monitoring labor compliance.
Have knowledge of subcontracting laws and policies.
Have knowledge and experience with the Storm Water Pollution Prevention Program and the General Permit.
Have knowledge of Caltrans Standard Plans, Standard Specifications, and Construction Manual.
Have proper background clearance, as necessary, when performing work on or near the rail system.
Have experience in assisting in preparation of Resident Engineers for the Dispute Review Board (DRB) position papers and meetings.
Have experience in assisting Resident Engineers to respond to preliminary claim findings and preparation for Dispute Review Board (DRB).
Have experience in preparation of Claims files, documents and reports.
Have knowledge and experience in keeping complete, accurate, and concise records of the work and quantities.
Will perform other duties as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
Technical school or Associate degree
Relevant Industry Certifications
Experience in highway/roadway construction inspection...Caltrans
Ability to interpret construction schedules
Required Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent
A minimum of 3 years experience
Proficient with MS Office (Word/Excel/Outlook)
Proven problem-solving and documentation abilities
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
This position typically requires successfully passing drug-screening procedures prior to being hired; thereafter subject to random and cause drug and alcohol testing

The expected compensation range for this position depends upon skills, experience, education and geographical location. $42.00/hr - $92.00/hr. DEPENDING ON EXPERIENCE. Compensation may vary if/when services are performed that are covered by California's Prevailing Wage laws on public sector projects or are covered by other applicable wage and hour laws.
