We are seeking a driven and detail-oriented Assistant Controller to join our growing commecial general contracting team . This key leadership role oversees day-to-day accounting operations, including payroll, accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), project reporting, and month-end close. You’ll support strategic financial initiatives, ensure compliance with accounting standards, and mentor a high-performing team—all while positioning yourself for growth into Controller or CFO-level roles.

Lead and perform month-end close, journal entries, and financial statement preparation.

Oversee bank reconciliations and key GL accounts (prepaids, payroll, etc.).

Supervise payroll processing and ensure timely tax remittance and journal entries.

Manage integration of new projects and Sage paperless transactions.

Maintain and reconcile fixed asset schedules and equipment utilization tracking.

Prepare and review Work-In-Progress (WIP) schedules to ensure revenue accuracy.

Allocate insurance accruals to appropriate projects.

Assist the CFO with audit preparation and special financial reporting projects.

Provide leadership and support to accounting staff, promoting a collaborative culture.

Contribute to the evaluation and implementation of accounting software systems and process improvements.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field (CPA, CMA, or CCIFP certification preferred).

5+ years of senior-level accounting experience in the commercial onstruction industry .

Solid understanding of GAAP and construction cost accounting principles.

Proficiency with accounting systems and cross-platform integrations (Sage experience preferred).

Strong analytical, reconciliation, and communication skills.

Proven ability to lead and mentor a team in a fast-paced environment.

Experience with software implementation and operational rollouts is a plus.
