Position Summary:
The Assistant Project Manager (APM) supports the Project Manager in planning, coordinating, and executing steel erection projects from pre-construction through closeout. The APM ensures that field activities, procurement, submittals, and documentation are completed efficiently, safely, and in alignment with project budgets and schedules.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Coordination
Assist in project planning, scheduling, and coordination with internal teams, vendors, and subcontractors.
Track and update project schedules, budgets, and critical path items.
Support the PM in change order development, tracking, and documentation.
Monitor and document jobsite activities and progress reports.
Attend jobsite meetings and record minutes or action items.
Procurement & Material Management
Assist in procuring steel, bolts, decking, and erection equipment.
Coordinate deliveries with suppliers and the jobsite superintendent.
Track material submittals, RFIs, and shop drawings.
Document Control
Maintain organized digital and physical project files (RFIs, submittals, contracts, drawings, and correspondence).
Ensure updated drawings are distributed to the field team.
Assist with creating and managing punch lists and closeout documentation.
Safety & Compliance
Support field team in ensuring safety procedures are followed.
Document safety meetings, inspections, and incident reports.
Track certifications and training for compliance with OSHA standards.
Cost Tracking
Help manage and monitor labor hours, equipment usage, and other costs.
Assist in preparing and reviewing subcontractor invoices and vendor payments.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience
Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field ().
1–3 years of experience in construction or steel erection ( or field experience counts).
Understanding of structural steel drawings and erection processes.
Skills & Abilities
Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
Familiarity with Procore, Bluebeam, or similar construction software ().
Basic knowledge of AISC standards and OSHA safety regulations.
Ability to read and interpret shop and erection drawings.
