- We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Estimator to join our construction team.
- The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the estimating process, from bid initiation through final submission. This role requires in-depth knowledge of construction processes, trade take-offs, and subcontractor coordination.
- Retrieve project plans and bid packages from internal systems and maintain organized records.
- Complete and maintain Estimating Checklists and update the bid board regularly.
- Track bid status, due dates, and provide updates during weekly estimating meetings.
- Review project scope, plans, and landlord requirements, including any subcontractor preferences.
- Coordinate with the assistant estimator to ensure accurate subcontractor coverage.
- Issue subcontractor bid invitations within 24-48 hours of receiving bid packages.
- Schedule and confirm site visits during the bid process.
- Validate project start and end dates from bid documents.
- Provide trade breakdowns for scope clarity and subcontractor pricing.
- Perform trade take-offs, calculate unit costs, and analyze subcontractor pricing.
- Generate RFIs and potential value engineering (VE) options during the bid phase.
- Prepare client bid forms and clear, detailed internal budgets.
- Submit estimates on time and ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Create scope sheets for each trade to evaluate subcontractor qualifications.
- Participate in project handoffs upon award, collaborating with Project Managers on buyouts and budgets.
- Maintain active participation and accountability in weekly estimating meetings.
- Collaborate with subcontractors to identify and document VE opportunities.
- Request labor rates and unit costs to support pricing validations.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 7 years of hands-on estimating experience in the construction industry (required).
- Strong understanding of commercial construction practices and bidding procedures.
- Proficient in reading and analyzing construction drawings and specifications.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and estimating software tools.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in cost analysis and budgeting.
- Has extensive interior estimating in the field of commercial projects (retail, medical, QSR, restaurants, etc) between 1,000 and 10,000 sq ft.
- Preferred Skills:
- Experience developing scope sheets and bid templates.
- Background in both interior renovations and ground-up construction.
- Strong negotiation skills and familiarity with subcontractor buyouts.
