Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Construction Superintendent / Safety Manager to join our team in Frederick, MD. This dual-role position requires a seasoned professional with a minimum of 10 years of experience as a construction superintendent and at least 3 years of experience in construction safety management. The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership and communication skills, a deep understanding of construction processes, and a proactive approach to jobsite safety. A solid working knowledge of OSHA 30 standards and EM-385 regulations is essential.
Key Responsibilities
Project Management
Oversee all phases of construction projects, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget.
Coordinate scheduling and performance of subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors.
Interpret and manage blueprints, schematics, and project documentation.
Monitor project progress and proactively address delays or challenges.
Communicate regularly with clients, architects, engineers, and other stakeholders.
Lead and supervise construction teams to ensure productivity and quality standards.
Quality Assurance
Develop and enforce quality control procedures.
Conduct regular site inspections to verify compliance with project specifications.
Analyze quality data to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions.
Collaborate with production teams to resolve quality concerns effectively.
Safety Management
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of OSHA and EM-385 regulations, ensuring jobsite compliance at all times.
Lead safety discussions during subcontractor kick-off meetings.
Conduct daily safety briefings (tailgates/toolbox talks) and monthly safety standdowns.
Submit daily safety reports to the RMS Clerk/PE and present monthly safety awards.
Immediately report any safety incidents or concerns to the client for resolution.
Ensure all employees, subcontractors, and vendors complete safety indoctrination upon site entry.
Manage PPE enforcement, jobsite signage, and emergency protocols.
Safety Planning & Coordination
Create and maintain Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs) for all work features in coordination with the Quality Control Manager.
Organize and maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS) in both digital and hard copy formats.
Coordinate hot work permits and any necessary site shutdowns.
Continuous Monitoring
Conduct ongoing jobsite inspections to ensure adherence to safety standards.
Oversee general site cleanliness and supervise cleanup efforts as needed.
Qualifications
Minimum 10 years of construction superintendent experience.
Minimum 3 years of construction safety management experience.
OSHA 30 Construction Certification required.
EM-385 Certification required.
Proven track record in leading safety training and meetings.
Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
Experience with safety documentation and reporting processes.
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Safety Management, or a related field is preferred.
