We are a commercial construction company seeking an underground utilities pipe layer / equipment operator. Our benefits include health, dental, vision, 401(k) matching plan, PTO and paid holidays. The ideal candidate will have experience in Layouts, assembles, and installing pipe systems of various shapes, sizes and pressures as well as operating heavy equipment. The position is responsible for ensuring proper placement, connections, and alignment according to project specifications.
Job Responsibilities:
Plans underground pipe system layout, installation, or repair according to project specifications
Determines equipment and material needs for each assignment
Cuts, threads, and bends, pipe to specifications using hand tools and power tools
Measures and marks pipes for cutting and threading
Assembles pipes, tubes, and fittings according to specifications
Inspects work site to identify obstructions or holes that will cause structure weakness
Inspects, examines, and tests installed systems to ensure quality construction
Identify and resolve construction site problems
Provide immediate and accurate communication to the Superintendent
Enforce the Scherer Construction/OSHA safety standards at all times
Job Essentials:
Must be able to lift and move work related items up to 50 pounds
Must be able to push, pull up, bend at the knees and waist, twist body at waist, raise and hold arms overhead, turn head-neck-shoulders as needed
Must be able to stand, squat and kneel on hard surfaces
Must be able to grasp and hold tools and other items with hands
Must be able to work frequently in hot temperatures, loud noises and exhaust fumes
Job Skills, Knowledge, Training and Experience:
Sound knowledge of various types of construction equipment and construction procedures
Knowledge of underground structure construction techniques
Ability to inspect and evaluate the quality of materials
Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations
Ability to identify and resolve problems
Excellent communication skills
Ability to multi-task and prioritize to meet deadlines
Self-motivated
