Position Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Construction Estimating Manager, the Construction Estimator is responsible for preparing and documenting cost estimates and execution plans for construction projects.
You will compute cost estimates of raw materials purchased and leased equipment, and/or subcontracted work and labor required in the bidding and tendering process.
Duties and Responsibilities:
You will participate in design reviews for Power Plant Systems, structures, and components within the Construction Estimators area of expertise.
You will have a solid understanding of both design/build and build-to-spec contracts
You will interpret project drawings and specifications, analyze blueprints, specifications, and other documentation
You will create sketches, drawings, and specifications to meet client requirements
You will have an accurate take-off of quantities from project drawings and specifications
You will be responsible for the preparations and documentation of project estimates following the estimating policy and procedures
You will analyze sub-trade quotations, liaison with subcontractors for clarification of issues
You will prepare bid bond applications
You will participate in turnover meetings with Project Management on successful bids
You will attend On-site visits that may be required on more complex tenders
You will maintain the tendering process and set up cost monitoring and reporting systems/procedures
You will prepare Costs for potential scope of work changes and bid to construction reviews
Cost out potential additional costs in claim situations
Estimate Preparation - labor hours, material costs; tender form requirement tools & equipment lists; scheduling; and compile bid packages for subcontractors
Required Skills, Qualities, and Experience:
Must have a minimum of 5 to 10 years of Power Plant experience within an estimating department.
Nuclear experience is strongly desired
Must have 5 to 10 years of writing proposals and bids.
Must have a strong construction estimating background on large capital projects
Trade Certification and/or Professional Engineering Certification, or equivalent Construction/power plant industry experience.
Must have experience managing lump sum projects with large value.
Must have a Strong Ability to write Proposals and understand terms.
Must have strong leadership qualities
Must have strong organizational skills
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
Good knowledge of sub-trades.
Trade Pipefitter, Boilermaker, Millwright, or Ironworker background
Common sense, concentration, imagination, ability to read and understand drawings, self-assurance, responsible attitude, and leadership qualities.
Good familiarity with MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint
Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment, including personnel, vendors, consultants, and clients
Ability to develop Level 3, 4 schedules using MS Projects or Primavera P6
Must be a US Citizen, GC Holder or Permanent Resident
