We are seeking an experienced Construction Inspector II to join our expanding Colorado Springs team. In this role, you will collaborate closely with construction managers and project engineers to observe and inspect transportation construction projects.

Summary:
As a Construction Inspector II, you will serve as an inspector for defined segments of large projects or programs, or as the construction manager for small projects under the guidance of a project manager. Position Title: Construction Inspector II
Position Reports to: Project Manager
Supervises: May coordinate with interns, entry-level engineers, inspectors, or administrative staff
Compensation: $32.00 – $38.00 per hour. This is a non-exempt position under the FLSA. The pay range provided is an estimate; the final hourly rate will be determined based on internal equity, established salary ranges, relevant skills, experience, qualifications, and current market conditions.
Requirements:
Serve as an inspector for defined segments of large projects or programs, or as construction manager for small projects under project manager guidance
Maintain daily reports of work progress and project status
Assist with reviews of submittals including materials, methods statements, and shop drawings
Support facilitation of project meetings, including creation of agendas and distribution of meeting notes
Conduct field measurements to establish quantities for pay item documentation and contract administration
Consistently use digital tools such as Excel workbooks for explanation of pay quantities and variations from plan quantities
Assist with providing justification measurements and documentation for construction change orders and force account
Review frequency, documentation, and techniques of third-party materials testing technicians for compliance with applicable standards
Provide leadership behaviors and actions related to safety on project sites
Independently assess existing infrastructure elements applying standard criteria and techniques
Attend relevant training and achieve advanced inspection certifications
Operate and maintain specialized inspection equipment
May assign tasks to and coordinate with interns, entry-level engineers, inspectors, or administrative staff
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma + 4 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
Competent in interpretation and application of construction contract documents including plans, standard specifications, special provisions, and measurement and payment terms
Proficient with timely delivery of inspection deliverables
Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite, cloud-based file servers, and GIS asset management software
Ability to learn quickly, work responsibly, and adapt to changing project needs
Willingness to work flexible schedules with variable shifts and travel as needed
Broad knowledge and inspection expertise across numerous elements of heavy civil construction
Preferred Qualifications:
Minimum 4+ years of CDOT, other state DOT, or local agency construction inspection experience required; or demonstrated equivalent combination of education, skills, knowledge, abilities and experience
Basic understanding of construction principles and practices
Ability to document any and all relevant events, issues and variances
Ability to perform basic computations and calculations
Familiarity with local, state, and federal project guidelines
Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong verbal and written communication abilities
Ability to communicate and interact with colleagues, contractors, clients, stakeholders, and public with mature, steady demeanor
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
Confidence and proficiency to operate as independent inspector providing oversight of entire work areas or multiple operations
Physical Requirements:
Ability to work outdoors in various conditions
Ability to walk and inspect for extended periods
Occasional lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds of equipment or materials
Endurance for detailed work and computer use
Ability to work in various environments, including offices and construction sites
Additional Requirements:
Valid driver's license and ability to work remotely from an equipped vehicle or project field office
Willingness to travel to various project sites in the surrounding area
