- Construction Inspector IV: B21: $54,278.00 - $87,046.00/yearly
- Construction Inspector V: B22: $57,614.00 - $93,138.00/yearly
- Construction Inspector VI: B24:$65,104.00 - $106,634.00/yearly

Position Description
Oversees inspection of construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build roadways, bridges, traffic signals, airports and related structures in accordance with plans and specifications; acts as a consultant regarding work progress and problem resolution. OR Oversees statewide oversight activities for construction projects; acts as a consultant regarding work progress and problem resolution and/or provides statewide technical assistance and training in support of implementation, oversight and review of Site Manager activities.
Trains others. May lead the work of professional and technical employees. Responsible to a licensed professional engineer who has full authority for final approval of all engineering-related work. May perform material tests/manufacturing process inspections at fabrication sites. Work requires contact with other governmental agencies and private entities to include contractors. Employees at this level are virtually self-supervising and assume direct accountability for the work product.
Essential Duties:
The essential duties for a Construction Inspector IV, V and VI include:
- *Ensures inspectors turn in monthly estimates in an accurate and timely manner to facilitate payments to contractors.
- Consults with Project Engineers, resident project representatives and contractors' superintendents on work progress and construction problems; reviews equipment utilization data and time/cost estimates.
- Ensures adequate levels of equipment and materials are assigned to projects; ensures material tests are performed and materials meet required standards.
- Ensures contractors build roadways, bridges and related highway structures and/or airport improvements in accordance with plans and specifications.
- Monitors project phasing and traffic control plans or airport closure plans and ensures compliance with approved safety standards; inspects barricades; as required moves traffic control devices and barricades.
- Observes and inspects ongoing construction work.
- Oversees construction record-keeping activities; recommends payments to contractors; recommends change orders, extra work orders/supplemental agreements; reviews proposed change orders submitted by consultants; prepares reports.
- Reviews construction records, inspection reports and records audits to ensure contractors build roadways, bridges and related structures in accordance with plans and specifications.
- Trains and mentors less experienced inspectors on work methods.
- Documents work progress and issues arising throughout scope of project.
Additional responsibilities required for a Construction Inspector V and VI include:
- Consults with Project Engineers, resident project representatives and contractors' superintendents on work progress and construction problems; reviews equipment utilization data and time/cost estimates.
- May serve as a lead worker or project leader.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.
Experience:
- Construction Inspector IV: 3 YEARS experience in construction, maintenance and repairs, construction inspection,
engineering support, materials or process inspection; or related experience.
- Construction Inspector V: 4 YEARS experience in construction, maintenance and repairs, construction inspection,
engineering support, materials or process inspection; or related experience.
- Construction Inspector VI: 5 YEARS experience in construction, maintenance and repairs, construction inspection,
engineering support, materials or process inspection; or related experience.
(Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis . Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications
Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver's license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Medium work: Lift up to 50 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 25 lbs
- Balancing-walking, standing, crouching on various surfaces without falling
- Stooping-bending body downward and forward by bending spine at waist
- Kneeling-bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee(s)
- Standing-prolonged periods of time
- Lifting-raising objects from lower to higher position/horizontally to a different position
- Talking-expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken words
- Close Visual Acuity-work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading
- Visual Acuity-determine work quality/make general observations of facilities/structures
