Position Summary: The Construction Manager is responsible for construction and improvement projects in the gas transmission system. The Construction Manager identifies contract-worthy projects, consults on project feasibility and site details, coordinates with construction crews, oversees project inspectors, and performs construction oversight on a project-specific basis. The incumbent may also prepare job packages, construction estimates, conduct job walks, and meet with bidders, contractors, and governing agencies. The Construction Manager ensures projects are completed according to company standards.
This job is eligible to participate in PG&E's discretionary incentive compensation programs, focusing on engineering design, regulatory guidelines, permits, and schedule adherence.
This position is hybrid, working remotely and onsite based on business needs within the PG&E Service Territory.
PG&E provides a salary range based on the locality and believes it might pay for this position at the time of posting. The actual salary will depend on skills, education, licenses, experience, market value, location, and internal factors. The estimated salary range is:
Bay Area Minimum: $126,000
Bay Area Maximum: $200,000
Or in California:
Minimum Base Salary: $120,000
Maximum Base Salary: $190,000
Job Responsibilities: Apply broad expertise across multiple disciplines such as civil, electrical, process instrumentation, and pipeline construction management.
Collaborate closely with Project Managers and Gas Operation Supervisors to understand construction targets and identify potential contractual projects.
Interpret internal drawings and data for RFP and contract processes; renegotiate scope with contractors as needed; clarify technical details during construction; assist with change orders.
Participate in job scope walk downs, lead scope discussions, and attend design reviews to provide constructability input.
Lead formal job walk downs to review IFC drawings, schedules, and target dates.
Manage communication and documentation with contractors and conduct site meetings.
Monitor daily construction activities to ensure safety, quality, cost, and schedule goals are met; utilize workload management tools.
Serve as the point of contact for contractors, ensuring resource adequacy and workflow.
Act as Incident Commander and PG&E Representative in the field, ensuring adherence to safety and environmental standards.
Oversee construction inspection, coordinate field inspectors, and ensure coverage.
Communicate engineering and design issues; make decisions on changes affecting cost and schedule; verify as-built documents.
Work with Project Managers to plan and schedule construction activities.
Mentor and train employees at various levels.
Qualifications: Minimum:
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
7 years of experience in industrial engineering or construction.
Desired:
9 years of experience in industrial engineering or construction.
Knowledge of carbon steel piping materials, welding standards, and processes used in gas transmission construction.
Proficiency with Primavera P6, Unifier, Primavera Contracts Manager, Prolog, or similar tools.
Experience in cost accounting, inspection, and contract administration.
Knowledge of gas transmission construction standards and welding standards.
Ability to perform cost estimation and project scheduling.
