General Summary Applies good job management principles and expertise in the various crafts employed to ensure performance of Thorpe field crews to the satisfaction of customers and to the high standards of Thorpe Plant Services, Inc. Assigns job superintendents and field crews and monitors the work performance of the superintendents and crews on all job. Responsible for staffing and training of hourly field employees. Additionally, assists Branch Mgr./VP/Ops Mgr. on a temporary basis on needed. Role and Responsibilities • Assists Project Managers with supervising and directing the activity of all field construction crews. Assigns job superintendents to each individual job. Assists superintendents in completing the full work crew for each job. • Responsible for the manpower schedule and communication of such. • Assists in Company sales efforts to develop and strengthen customer relationships. This would include soliciting work from existing and/or prospective customers, post-job follow-up to ensure customer satisfaction, and making routine sales calls to existing customers. • Entertains customers and prospective customers as required. • Recruits and trains new job superintendents from outside the Thorpe organization. Develops superintendent capabilities in craftsmen within the Thorpe organization. • Recruits and assists in the training of new craftsmen and support personnel for Thorpe field crews. • Works with Project Manager to ensure that safety training and testing requirements for field employees are kept up to date. • In conjunction with Project Managers, determines the tools and equipment required to begin each project. Prepares necessary warehouse requisition to have those tools and equipment delivered to job sites. • In conjunction with Project Manager, monitors field construction during progress of work to assure details of construction are being followed and labor productivity objectives are being met. Assures proper job reporting data is completed by job superintendent. • Maintains liaison with customer representative. Schedules/attends meetings to advise customers of project details, project planning, and completion estimates. • When a job develops problems, works with Project Manager to take necessary action to turn the job around. • Maintains flexibility to monitor several projects concurrently and ensure that each is progressing as required. • Visits prospective jobsites to determine and evaluate extent of work, jobsite conditions, and other pertinent information, to be used either in estimating or in setting up a job. • Assists Project Managers in estimating. • Works with Project Managers in developing new construction techniques and in developing construction procedures for new materials. • Works with Warehouse Manager in maintenance services as needed to keep Thorpe construction equipment and trucks in proper condition. • Conducts interviews of candidates for warehouse position vacancies and recommends for employment in accordance with employment policies. • Assists Corporate Safety Department in implementation and control of the Thorpe Safety Program. • Adheres to and enforces Company safety policies and promulgates safety among Job Superintendents and field employees to comply with the rules and regulations of the Occupational Safety and Health Act and client safety requirements. • Assists in the preparation of and participates in safety meetings. • Direct Involvement, education, and engagement in BSK ‘yellow” card program with supervisors & crews. • Assists in incident investigations and in resolution process of employee worker's compensation insurance cases. • Is available to respond to after hour and weekend call-out as may be necessary to satisfy Company's client requirements. • Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications and Education Requirements • Degree or certification in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent field experience) • OSHA 30, TWIC card, NCCER certification, or other relevant safety/trade credentials • Experience working in turnaround, shutdown, or capital project environments Physical Requirements • Ability to lift 50 pounds • Ability to work off site at customer’s facilities • The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation. The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required. This includes hard hat, safety glasses/spoggles, respirators, ear plugs, steel toed shoes, or other protective equipment as required by the work performed and location the work is being done.
