Construction Materials Laboratory Technician –Decatur, AL
Description: Perform laboratory work in accordance with applicable ASTM and AASHTO standard procedures. Receives instructions on lab testing to be performed from supervisors, project professionals, and other technicians. Activities and materials typically encountered include but are not limited to tests for density, moisture content, permeability, gradation, consolidation, and strength with regard to soils, aggregates, fly ash, rock cores, concrete, and masonry block.
Responsibilities: Develop skills required for specialized laboratory testing Compile accurate and detailed data, reports, and laboratory analyses Perform calculations utilizing basic mathematical skills Maintain routine laboratory instruments and testing equipment according to manufacturer's instructions and relevant ASTM standards Use correct techniques and materials in accordance with industry standards, (e.g., ASTM AASHTO) Perform or schedule the calibration of testing equipment at the frequency required by the ASTM and AASHTO standards and also maintains the official records for the calibration activities Respond to AMRL and CCRL proficiency testing non-conformities Perform the testing for relevant ASTM's during on site assessments by both AMRL and CCRL representatives Demonstrates compliance with all required safety protocols Attends or completes weekly safety meetings or topics Requirements: Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent. College coursework or degree preferred. 2 years of experience in Construction Materials Laboratory work Proficient in Microsoft Office software, particularly: Word, Excel, & Outlook Communicate clearly both orally and in writing Maintain accurate recordkeeping and detailed laboratory analyses, reports, and field notes Work additional hours and weekends to complete tasks on or ahead of schedule Keep work areas orderly and assigned equipment and vehicles clean and in good working order Be responsive and professional when interacting with clients Maintain a neat and professional appearance along with polite and respectful behavior Demonstrate compliance with all required safety protocol Detail-oriented and organized with electronic information as well as physical samples Must be able to lift and/or move at least 50 pounds.
