Job Description
Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities:
- Conduct investigations into construction site accidents, injuries, and fatalities
- Analyze construction safety practices and compliance with OSHA regulations and other applicable codes and standards
- Evaluate standard of care for the various parties involved in construction, including workers, superintendents, engineers, safety managers, etc.
- Assess causation and responsibility for accidents/injuries
- Evaluate responsibilities, duties, and scope for the parties on a multi-employer work site
- Evaluate safety practices/protocols involving heavy equipment, machine guarding, cranes, rigging, scaffolding, excavation, and trenching
- Review work site safety programs and assess implementation and quality
- Collaborate with engineers and subject matter experts during investigations
- Provide technical findings and conclusions in laymen's terms, both verbally and in writing
- Provide testimony in legal proceedings, which may include depositions and court proceedings
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies
- Responsible for development and retention of clients
- Regular and predictable presence at work
- Other duties as assigned
Position Requirements:
- Minimum 10 years of construction safety/management experience, with overall responsibility for safety
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Industrial Hygiene, or related safety field. Advanced degrees preferred
- Professional certifications, such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or OSHA 500
- Broad-based experience in a variety of construction project environments, including residential, commercial, municipal, industrial, and institutional projects
- PE registration is a plus
- Construction experience in New York City, and familiarity with Section 240, is a plus
- Active involvement in professional affiliations, such as the American Society of Safety Engineers or National Society of Professional Engineers, is a plus
- Public speaking experience is a plus
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
Physical Requirements:
- 35 - 40% travel
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds
- Ability to climb a ladder and maneuver in and on buildings and structures
- Ability to drive to site locations in all conditions
- Ability to fly on airplanes
- Ability to effectively communicate with clients and colleagues
- Ability to visually inspect job sites and relevant artifacts
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment as required by the work site
