Job Overview
The Construction Superintendent will work closely with project managers, engineers, subcontractors, craft personnel and ESI’s commissioning and O&M teams to ensure seamless daily operations and successful completion of our construction projects. The position requires implementing sound construction management principles to ensure our EPC projects are executed flawlessly, driving on time and in budget delivery. An ability to work independently, self-motivate, and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders is of the utmost importance to this position. Consequently, the Construction Superintendent will be expected to provide feedback to department leadership on ways that processes and designs can be optimized.
Reports To
The Construction Superintendent will report to the Director of Projects.
Work Location
This is a remote position, based primarily at our active construction sites.
Responsibilities and Duties
Supervise and manage all on-site construction activities to ensure they align with project plans and specifications.
Reach substantial project completion/final completion and create a punch list.
Responsible for site equipment rental and related monthly cost tracking.
Execute mobilization and demobilization of jobsite.
Ensure that the site is kept clean during construction.
Track major equipment delivery and valves and parts delivery.
Scheduling of cranes as required for the offloading of major equipment.
Monitor weather and how it affects the craft (rain delays, lightning stand downs).
Participate in constructability reviews with engineering team.
Work in alignment with process, electrical, controls, SCADA, and project management teams as well as outside civil, structural, and geotechnical engineering partners to ensure project goals are met.
Develop and maintain construction schedules, ensuring that milestones are met within the stipulated time frame.
Allocate resources efficiently, including labor, materials, and equipment.
Enforce adherence to safety regulations and building codes.
Conduct regular site inspections to ensure compliance with safety standards and ensure completion of daily Job Safety Analysis (JSAs).
Facilitate effective communication between all parties involved in the project, including subcontractors and suppliers.
Maintain detailed records of construction activities, including daily logs, progress reports, and cost tracking.
Assist with commissioning and start-up.
Facilitate communication within the company to share lessons learned and foster an environment that rewards open discussion about mistakes and near-misses.
Communicate and collaborate with cross-functional partners such as Operations, Business Development, Project Management, HR, and IT.
Apply RACI principals to support an accountability framework for special projects.
Seek ways to improve and promote quality, demonstrating accuracy and thoroughness in all work.
Willingness and ability to respond to urgent issues outside normal business hours.
Remote position but requiring 100% travel each month.
Other responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
8 years of Construction project experience including a minimum of 2 years of onsite construction management experience.
Valid driver’s license for the state of residence.
Working knowledge of construction site hazard assessment.
Working knowledge of OSHA Part 1926 – Safety and Health Regulations for Construction.
Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite of software. (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
Qualifications
Proficiency in MS Project, ProCore or other project management/scheduling software.
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Construction Management or equivalent.
