The Construction Supervisor is a critical field leadership role at DCOMM, responsible for the day-to-day management of employee and subcontractor crews performing broadband Outside Plant (OSP) construction services, including fiber optics, aerial, and underground work. This role ensures projects meet deadlines, adhere to quality and safety standards, and align with operational and project Key Performance Targets (KPTs), both financial and performance-based.

This hands-on position requires strong organizational and communication skills to manage crews effectively, track materials, maintain equipment and vehicles, and ensure seamless project execution. The Construction Supervisor serves as the first line of management in the field, providing direct support to crews, alerting management and customers to issues, and fostering a culture of accountability and safety.

YOUR ROLE IN ACTION

Crew Management: Oversee day-to-day activities of employee and subcontractor crews, ensuring work is completed safely, on time, and to quality standards. Provide direction, resolve issues, and support crews in achieving project goals.
Project Execution: Ensure adherence to project schedules and deadlines, proactively identifying and resolving issues that may delay progress. Communicate with management and customers to provide updates on project status and any potential challenges.
Safety Leadership: Enforce compliance with OSHA regulations, company safety protocols, and customer-specific safety requirements. Conduct daily safety checks and ensure crews prioritize a safety-first culture.
Quality Assurance: Monitor work quality to ensure adherence to technical specifications, customer expectations, and company standards. Conduct regular inspections of completed work to address deficiencies promptly.
Project Documentation: Maintain and update project documentation, including redlines, as-builts, fiber schematic worksheets, and project journal entries. Ensure all records are accurate, complete, and submitted in a timely manner.
Project Tracking Software Management: Keep internal project tracking software (Vitruvi) updated with accurate, real-time project data. Ensure timely and accurate updates in customer-provided project tracking platforms, aligning internal and external project records.
KPT Achievement: Ensure projects meet operational and financial Key Performance Targets (KPTs), including labor efficiency, project deadlines, and budgetary goals. Support crews in achieving performance benchmarks.
Resource Tracking: Maintain accurate records of materials used, ensuring proper inventory management and timely restocking to support seamless project execution.
Equipment and Vehicle Maintenance: Ensure all equipment and vehicles assigned to crews are properly maintained, operational, and accounted for. Coordinate repairs or replacements as needed.
Communication and Reporting: Serve as the primary point of contact for crews, providing clear instructions, answering questions, and escalating issues to management as necessary. Provide timely updates to customers and internal teams.
Subcontractor Oversight: Manage subcontractor performance, ensuring adherence to safety, quality, and contractual requirements. Address performance issues promptly and foster strong working relationships.
Problem-Solving and Decision-Making: Proactively identify and resolve field-related challenges, leveraging technical expertise and practical solutions to keep projects on track.
All Other Duties as Assigned: Take on additional responsibilities to meet the evolving needs of the business and ensure operational excellence.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

Leadership Experience: Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in a field supervisory role within broadband Outside Plant (OSP) construction. Proven ability to lead and manage crews of employees and subcontractors in a high-activity environment.
OSP Construction Expertise: Strong background in fiber optics, aerial, and underground construction, with an in-depth understanding of field operations, workflows, and customer expectations.
Safety Leadership: Commitment to promoting and enforcing safety protocols and ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations and company standards. Experience conducting safety audits and training.
Operational and Financial Acumen: Demonstrated success in meeting operational and financial KPTs, including labor efficiency, deadlines, and budgetary goals.
Problem-Solving Skills: Proven ability to identify and resolve field-related challenges, ensuring minimal disruption to project timelines.
Communication Proficiency: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to provide clear instructions to crews and professional updates to management and customers.
Resource Management: Experience in tracking materials, maintaining inventory accuracy, and ensuring equipment and vehicles are properly maintained and utilized.
Technological Proficiency: Familiarity with project tracking tools and workforce management platforms to support effective field operations.
Compliance and Integrity: Commitment to upholding DCOMM's values and ethical standards, including adherence to federal, state, and local regulations.
Licensing and Compliance: Must have a valid driver's license within the state in which you reside, meet company MVR requirements, meet company criminal background check requirements, and pass company drug testing requirements.

PHYSICAL & ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

The Construction Supervisor role operates primarily in outdoor, field-based environments, requiring adaptability to various physical demands and challenging conditions. Success in this position requires a commitment to safety, effective communication, and flexibility to navigate dynamic construction sites and meet project deadlines.

Work Environment: This role is primarily field-based, working in outdoor environments, including active construction sites. Field conditions may include exposure to varying weather conditions such as extreme heat, cold, rain, wind, snow, and ice. The work environment may also involve uneven or rough terrain, limited visibility, and proximity to active equipment and construction hazards. Supervisors must be prepared to adapt to changing environmental conditions throughout the year.
Physical Demands:
Ability to lift and carry up to 80 lbs regularly.
Ability to climb ladders, bend, kneel, and crouch for extended periods.
Comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces as needed.
Ability to perform repetitive physical motions and work with arms extended overhead for prolonged periods.
Travel Requirements: Travel is typically day travel between local job sites. While overnight travel is rare, the individual must be open to traveling to other regions to assist with projects or support new launches when required..
Safety Compliance: Strict adherence to safety protocols, including the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), is mandatory. Regular safety checks and participation in training are required to mitigate risks in hazardous environments.
Professional Communication: As a primary representative of the company, this role requires exceptional communication skills to engage effectively with customers, vendors, and internal teams. The Supervisor must maintain a professional demeanor at all times, fostering trust and upholding the company's reputation.

LOCATION AND TRAVEL

Primary Work Location: This role is primarily based in the field at active construction sites within the assigned region.
Travel Requirements: Travel is primarily local day travel between job sites. While overnight travel is rare, the individual must be willing and available to travel to other regions to assist with project launches or provide additional support as needed.
Lodging Expenses: Lodging expenses incurred during approved business travel will be covered by the company.
Per Diem for Meals: A per diem allowance will be provided for meals during approved travel.
Driver Expectations: A valid driver's license is required for this role. The individual must maintain an acceptable driving record and adhere to safe driving practices when using company-provided or personal vehicles for business purposes.
