NEW HIGHER SALARY: $37,577 - $65,760 The Challenge We are looking for an experienced Construction Technician to join our Division 4 Construction team. In this role you will: Support senior technicians and engineers in functional areas such as construction inspection, surveying, material sampling and testing, and construction traffic control.
Perform standardized and non-standardized tests and assignments in compiling, analyzing, computing, editing, and processing field data.
Supervise junior technicians and contractors, and assist in the coordination of work assignments.
Perform highway construction surveying and layout.
Keep diaries on project operations.
Complete material reports.
Document pay records.
Perform construction calculations and computer/iPad data entry. What You Bring Strong recordkeeping skills to complete daily diaries, survey notes and other record-keeping items manually and electronically.
Ability to obtain and maintain certifications required to perform material sampling and testing.
Knowledge and understanding of NCDOT highway and bridge construction.
Knowledge in understanding contracts, plans, standards and specifications.
Experience performing inspections, samplings, and materials testing (concrete, asphalt density) to ensure compliance with NCDOT specifications.
Computer skills using iPads, laptops, software (HiCams, Microsoft Office, and SharePoint), and math functions
Working knowledge of pay record book entries and material received reports.
Solid communications skills to build and maintain positive lines of communication between technicians, engineers, contractors, and the public.
Ability to make independent decision-making and good use of judgement.
Strong skills in documentation and ability to take some corrective actions and apply safety philosophy/program to all operations.
Strong match skills to perform construction-related calculations.
Ability to acquire certifications, including QMS Asphalt, Concrete Testing, and Borrow Pit Sampling.
Strength to lift 40 to 50 pounds.
Agility to work in high traffic areas, at heights over water or traffic, extreme temperatures, and uneven terrain. Education & Experience Associate's degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related field, and
2+ years relevant technician-level experience; or
An equivalent combination of training and experience. Notes You may also be required to work nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours if needed.
Safety toe shoes are required.
