The Contractor and Construction H&S Lead is responsible for overseeing and managing health and safety programs related to construction projects and contractor activities across the organization. This role ensures compliance with all applicable occupational health and safety legislation, corporate policies, and industry best practices. The position plays a key role in supporting project teams, contractors, and business units to maintain a safe work environment and foster a strong safety culture.
This role requires close collaboration with the Manufacturing and Launch teams to ensure safety is integrated into all phases of project planning, execution, and operational readiness.
Key Responsibilities:
Program Development & Implementation
Develop, implement, and maintain corporate H&S programs specific to construction and contractor management.
Ensure alignment with corporate safety objectives and regulatory requirements.
Contractor Safety Management
Lead the contractor prequalification process, including safety performance evaluations.
Review and approve contractor safety plans and risk assessments.
Conduct onboarding and orientation for contractors and subcontractors.
Construction Site Oversight
Perform regular site inspections and audits to ensure compliance with safety standards.
Support project managers and site supervisors in identifying and mitigating hazards.
Investigate incidents, near misses, and safety concerns; recommend corrective actions.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work closely with Manufacturing and Launch teams to align safety protocols with operational needs and timelines.
Participate in project planning meetings to identify safety risks and mitigation strategies early in the process.
Training & Communication
Deliver safety training and toolbox talks to internal teams and contractors.
Promote awareness of safety policies, procedures, and expectations.
Regulatory Compliance
Stay current with local, provincial, and federal safety regulations (e.g., OHSA, WSIB).
Ensure all documentation and reporting requirements are met.
Reporting & Continuous Improvement
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Facilities, Legal, and Procurement.
Provide regular reports and updates to the Corporate H&S leadership team.
Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in safety practices and culture.
