Job Summary:
Our Client is seeking an experienced Director of Construction to lead their construction operations and drive strategic growth for their small, growth-oriented construction company. The ideal candidate will possess a unique combination of extensive construction expertise, strong financial acumen, and advanced proficiency in construction management software systems. This role demands exceptional attention to detail and the ability to oversee multiple complex projects while maintaining the highest standards of quality, safety, and profitability.
Job Responsibilities:
Project Leadership & Operations
Lead and manage comprehensive preconstruction activities, including constructability reviews, value engineering, scheduling, and cost estimating
Lead project teams, including project managers and field personnel
Develop and implement standardized construction processes and best practices across all projects
Conduct regular project reviews and quality control inspections with meticulous attention to detail
Ensure compliance with building codes, safety regulations, and company policies
Financial Management & Analysis
Develop detailed project budgets and cost estimates using financial modeling techniques
Monitor project profitability and cash flow, implementing corrective measures when necessary
Analyze cost variances and prepare comprehensive financial reports for executive leadership
Negotiate contracts with subcontractors and suppliers to optimize project margins
Collaborate with the accounting team on project cost accounting and revenue recognition
Technology & Process Optimization
Lead implementation and optimization of construction management software, Buildertrend
Establish digital workflows for project documentation, scheduling, and communication
Analyze software data to identify trends, inefficiencies, and improvement opportunities
Train teams on new technology tools and ensure consistent adoption across projects
Stay current with emerging construction technology and recommend system upgrades
Strategic Planning & Business Development
Develop long-term construction strategies aligned with company growth objectives
Participate in proposal preparation and client presentations for new business opportunities
Build and maintain relationships with key clients, architects, and industry partners
Mentor and develop construction management team members
Qualifications:
Education & Experienc
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or Business field
Minimum 5+ years of progressive construction industry experience
3+ years in senior management or director-level roles
Strong background in commercial or residential construction projects
Technical Skills
Expert proficiency in construction management software (Procore, PlanGrid, Buildertrend, or similar platforms)
Advanced knowledge of project scheduling software (Primavera P6, Microsoft Project)
Proficiency in financial analysis tools and construction accounting principles
Strong understanding of building codes, construction methods, and industry regulations
Financial Expertise
Demonstrated experience in construction project financial management
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data
Knowledge of cost accounting, cash flow analysis, and profitability metrics
Experience with contract negotiation and risk assessment
Understanding of bonding, insurance, and construction finance
Leadership & Communication
Proven track record of leading high-performing construction teams
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong problem-solving abilities with exceptional attention to detail
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

Physical Requirements
Ability to spend significant time on active construction sites

Availability for occasional travel to project sites and client meetings

Compensation & Benefits:
Base pay $100-150K based on experience + bonus plan
