The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for a wide range of commercial construction projects, by appropriately evaluating the cost of a project, evaluating the cost to take on that project, and bidding a project from start to finish. This role involves reviewing construction documents, performing material and labor takeoffs, soliciting and evaluating subcontractor bids, and identifying project risks and opportunities. The Estimator must be familiar with our competitive advantages as a Company and be able to communicate those to our benefit throughout the bidding process.
The PEC Estimator must possess a strong understanding of construction methods, division scopes, and cost analysis, and plays a critical role in supporting preconstruction efforts and contributing to successful project delivery. The ideal candidate must have at least 3-5 years’ experience.

Prepare and execute the bidding and estimating functions of projects, including preparation of bid instructions, pre-bid meetings, and subcontractor buy-out. Represent company ideals and performance through accuracy and commitment to project success.
Analyze and compile estimate data that impact the cost of labor, materials, equipment Requirements, location and other factors to ensure a high quality and timely estimate.
Identify discrepancies, conflicts, or omissions within plans and specifications, and proactively seek clarifications through Requests for Information (RFIs) prior to bid submission.
Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for materials and labor using digital takeoff tools and software to ensure accurate and comprehensive cost estimates.
Maintain knowledge of competitive advantages in the industry to aid in the bidding process.
Resolve cost discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information.
Qualify bidding vendors and subcontractors.
Must work hard to find Value Engineering items to gain a competitive edge in the bidding process.
Build and maintain relationships with Clients, Architects, Trade Partners, and Subcontractors.
Occasionally attend conferences, meetings, new jobsite visits, and cold call visits to clients all with the purpose of promoting and soliciting jobs we are pursuing.

Education, Experience, & Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Math, Engineering, or Construction related field; or equivalent work experience
3 to 5 years of experience in construction estimating.
Strong understanding of subcontractor and vendor proposal evaluation.
Extensive knowledge of commercial construction industry practices, procedures, and market trends.
Demonstrated understanding of commercial construction estimating and bidding processes, particularly the time and pace associated with completing estimating project/work activities.
Familiarity with bidding documents, contract documents, and the ability to read and analyze plans.
Proficiency in reading and interpreting construction documents, including blueprints, specifications, and addenda.
Ability to thoroughly read, interpret, and analyze project specifications to ensure alignment with drawings, identify scope requirements, and detect discrepancies or conflicts that may impact the accuracy of the estimate.
Comprehensive understanding of all construction divisions, with a focus on ensuring the accurate and complete estimation of costs across each division in alignment with project scope and specifications.
Demonstrated advanced proficiency in all MS Office Suite applications, with expertise in Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Exceptional communication skills (written, verbal and presentation).
Detailed oriented with the ability to focus on quality, accuracy, and attention to detail.
Dedicated, well organized, able to plan, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks.
Exceptional time management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, coworkers, and vendors.
Demonstrated ability to ensure subcontractors meet bid deadlines through clear communication, establishing accountability expectations, and requiring alignment with project requirements and timelines.

Work Environment:
Duties are performed primarily in an office environment and may require traveling to other facilities using employee's personal transportation.
This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers and various digital devices.
This is a full-time position; days and hours of work are typically Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
