About the Role The Fiber Construction Inspector is responsible for overseeing field installation activities and ensuring quality, safety, and compliance on fiber optic construction projects. This role includes both aerial and underground inspections, ensuring work meets industry standards and regulatory requirements, and providing support to contractors and internal teams throughout the construction process. This includes working with state and city municipalities, the Department of Transportation (DOT), railroad crossings, right-of-way (ROW) permits, pole attachments with local power companies, and other regional permitting entities.
Responsibilities: Field Inspections and Quality Control: Conduct on-site inspections of fiber optic installations, including aerial and underground infrastructure. Verify installation of fiber cables, conduits, handholes, and related components. Perform quality checks such as OTDR and power meter testing for fiber splicing and terminations. Ensure work meets Ripple Fiber's design standards and industry regulations.
Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with contractors, subcontractors, and project managers to ensure field issues are promptly resolved. Participate in pre-construction meetings and project handoffs to understand design expectations. Support project closeout by verifying completion of all construction items and redlines.
Maintain readiness to travel to different job sites and work outdoors in varying conditions.
Always ensure use of proper PPE and safety procedures.
Technical Knowledge and Field Readiness: Apply knowledge of fiber optic network builds and construction methods in both aerial and underground environments.
Compliance and Documentation: Monitor adherence to OSHA, NESC, and applicable local/state/federal guidelines. Identify and document deficiencies or non-compliant work, issuing corrective actions as needed. Maintain accurate inspection reports, photo documentation, and daily logs.
Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent; Associate's or bachelor's degree in Telecommunications, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
OSHA 10/30, NESC knowledge, FOA/ETA/BICSI certifications preferred.
Ability to work outdoors, lift up to 50 lbs., and walk on uneven terrain.
Professional demeanor and strong communication skills.
Ability to handle confidential information and new or sensitive situations effectively.
Compliance with company controls and processes.
Record of integrity, ethical, professional, and personal standards supported by references.
Willingness to travel to local markets.
Proven ability to solve problems creatively, manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and work with minimal supervision.
Valid driver's license and willingness to travel.
Familiarity with OTDR, power meter testing, GIS systems, and fiber design tools such as AutoCAD.
Minimum of 2 years in fiber optic construction or inspection roles.
