TraceAir is a construction SaaS startup that provides data analytics to construction teams to help them better manage their job sites. About the role
We are seeking an exceptional Head of GIS to lead our 40-person Geospatial Information Systems team through an exciting period of growth and transformation. This role is pivotal to our business, overseeing a diverse, distributed team of specialists and assistants across Armenia, Kazakhstan, Spain, Israel, and beyond.
While deep GIS expertise is essential, our number one priority is leadership - we need someone who can inspire, develop, and integrate a multicultural, multi-location team, ensuring operational excellence and long-term success.
About GIS team
The GIS team develops the photogrammetry data gathered by drones/lidars, georeferences blueprints and surfaces, and fills the platform with cartographic data, develops custom solutions and prototypes, enables flight marker placement and other field work.
We seek the Head of GIS to lead our dynamic and skilled GIS team of 30+ members. This role combines strategic leadership, hands-on management to optimize team performance, scale operations as volumes grow, and heavy cross-functional collaboration across different time zones. This role reports to the COO.
What You'll Do
1) Budgeting and talent acquisition
Defining the organizational structure and roles within the GIS team to align with business objectives and maintain the acceptable cost
Budgeting and Resource Allocation
Identifying skill gaps and creating strategies to attract top GIS talent
Collaborating with HR to conduct effective recruitment processes
Developing onboarding programs to integrate new hires and ensure their success within the team
2) Team management
Building and maintaining a collaborative and high-performing team environment
Plan and execute the successful reassembly of the GIS team due to the transition to a remote-first team
Setting clear expectations, goals, and performance metrics for team members
Providing regular feedback, coaching, and support to foster professional growth to mid-level GIS management
Resolving conflicts and addressing team dynamics to ensure smooth operations
Recognizing and rewarding team achievements to boost motivation and engagement
Plan & execute training and development programs
3) Product management & cross-team collaboration
Building efficient processes that help deliver the best quality scans/requests while maintaining SLA within GIS team and across the entire product delivery chain, closely collaborating with leadership of other departments
Use analytics to identify gaps in workflows, technology, or product and find ways to optimize them
Ensuring data quality, accuracy, and consistency across GIS platforms
Tracking and reporting on team KPIs and preparing monthly updates for management
Closely collaborate with Engineering and Operations teams
Facilitating communication within and across teams, ensuring smooth operations
What we’re looking for
Experience: 5+ years in GIS leadership roles, ideally in fast-growing companies and during periods of transformation or relocation.
Proficiency with GIS software (QGIS, ArcGIS, etc.) and AutoCAD.
Familiarity with photogrammetry tools (e.g., Photoscan, Pix4D, Photomod).
Strong understanding of spatial data, coordinate systems, and geospatial workflows.
Proven ability to build high-performing remote teams across diverse cultures and time zones.
Languages: Fluent English (C1–C2). Russian is a plus.
Proven ability to manage, restructure and grow teams during periods of transformation or relocation
Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities and cross-functional collaboration
