Highway Construction Estimator

The Highway Construction Estimator position is responsible for the estimation of the entire project, including reviewing bid documents and specifications, creating take-offs, quantifying, and qualifying material quantities and prices for a precise and accurate bid proposal.
Requirements:
Review new projects posted for bidding
Generate and develop bids, leads via electronic and printed sources
Perform accurate take-off of blueprints to confirm quantities
Job site inspections for estimates and bids when warranted
Organize and prepare pre-bid packages: secure plans, specifications, addendums, etc.
Review bid specifications/blueprints to prepare bid package requirements
Attending bid openings and pre-construction meetings when warranted
Maintain relations with all vendors, clients, engineers, architects, owners, etc.
Communicate bid information to Senior Project Manager
Obtains pricing for materials
Obtains bids from subcontractors
Experience Required:
5+ years’ experience with a significant General Contractor employer in the heavy construction industry
Applicants should have experience, in and an understanding of, the estimating process on medium to large size projects
Experience with Public works projects involving prevailing wage work within city, county and state agencies
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam, and project management software
Proven track record of successfully delivering projects on time and within budget
Skills Required:
Leadership and team management skills to guide project teams effectively
Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
Excellent communication and negotiation skills with clients, vendors, and stakeholders
Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
In-depth knowledge of OSHA standards, DOT regulations, and construction best practices
Strong financial acumen with the ability to analyze budgets, costs, and project profitability
Education Required:
Vocational or apprenticeship training supplemented with 3-5 years of construction leadership experience, or equivalent
Bachelor’s degree in Business Management or Construction Management or combination of experience and education
Physical Requirements:
Work in both office and field settings, requiring adaptability to various conditions
Work Environment:
Regular travel to and from job sites Combination of office and fieldwork, requiring adaptability to various environments and conditions
