Responsibilities/Duties
The Landscape Construction Crew Leader is responsible for overseeing daily work on assigned landscape construction projects to ensure quality and timely completion. This includes directing and organizing the daily tasks for Landscape Crew Members and performing labor necessary for the installation of design elements. Specialization may include hardscapes, planting, grading, irrigation, or aquatics.
Site Management: Direct, organize, and oversee all aspects of Landscape Construction sites to ensure quality and timely completion.
Leadership: Lead by example, providing guidance to Crew Members regarding company policies and procedures such as attendance, conduct, and dress code.
Problem-Solving: Identify and address issues at the work site, consulting with the Production Coordinator or Production Manager as needed.
Preparation: Ensure daily preparation of trucks and equipment, loading and securing necessary materials.
Planting: Perform planting of trees, shrubs, annuals, and perennials, as well as installation of wood and stone mulch.
Installation: Install hardscape, water features, lighting, and irrigation systems, including retaining walls, boulders, wall stone, and pavers.
Labor Tasks: Perform all tasks involved in installation such as digging, shoveling, raking, sweeping, pruning, watering, picking stones, and clearing debris.
Equipment Operation: Operate equipment such as trucks, Bobcats, compactors, trenchers, masonry saws, etc.
Tool Use: Utilize hand tools such as wheelbarrows, shovels, rakes, picks, brooms, etc.
Winter Duties: Assist with snow removal during the winter months as needed.
Safety Compliance: Ensure team’s compliance with company safety policies and procedures at all times.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
Outdoor Work: Primarily performed outdoors during all seasons.
Weather Exposure: Exposure to outdoor weather conditions, including inclement weather (rain, snow, heat, or cold).
Noise Levels: Typically moderate, with hearing protection required for equipment operation.
Chemical Exposure: Duties may involve exposure to chemicals and fertilizers.
Schedule
Peak Season Hours: Typical work hours are Monday through Friday from 6:30 am to 5:00 pm (40-55 hours per week) during the peak season (approximately April to November), with Saturday hours as needed.
Position Type: Full-time Seasonal position.
Overtime: Occasional overtime as workload dictates.
Winter Hours: Hours vary in winter months (approximately December through March) based on snow removal needs.
Skills You Will Need
Experience: A minimum of 3-5 years of landscape construction experience is required.
Leadership: Previous foreman or crew leader experience is preferred.
Driver’s License: Valid United States Driver’s License is required (CDL is helpful but not required).
Equipment Operation: Previous experience operating equipment such as loaders, bobcats, skid steers, etc., is helpful but not required.
Design Interpretation: Ability to read and analyze or interpret design plans.
Plant Knowledge: Knowledge of trees, shrubs, and other landscape products.
Language Skills: Bilingual in Spanish and English is helpful but not required
