The Lead Construction Technician performs inspections and staff oversite on significant projects and will lead other inspection staff and/or projects themselves.

Essential Functions
Oversees inspection and testing activities for one or more projects
Provides oversight of inspection staff and assists them in developing their skills
Inputs data into pre-written computer programs
Operates computer and runs reports or calculations
Interprets construction plans and specifications
Observes construction operations on various sites using advanced knowledge to assess conformance to plans and specifications
Performs construction materials testing and develops budget estimates and proposals
Provides clear written documentation of daily activities, site conditions, etc.
Communicates effectively with other staff, contractor personnel, and client representatives
Demonstrates ability to work independently, managing staff on projects on a regular basis
Demonstrates initiative in identifying potential issues, takes steps to determine solutions, and implements selected steps
Participates in technical training sessions and achieves various certifications associated with construction inspection, as well as renewing held certifications
Identifies training and certifications that may be of value to members of the inspection team
Documents their daily work and reimbursable expenses in company accounting system
Seeks and accepts increasing levels of responsibility
Works with members of the management team to address issues and tackle obstacles
Trains other Construction Technicians and leads continuous improvement programs throughout the department
Provides regular consultation to other members of the department
Maintains client relationships and establishes new ones through business development activities
Engages clients and potential clients to identify future opportunities for work
This position may have direct reports
Qualifications
Experience
8+ years’ experience with construction inspection or construction trades
Experience with a public agency, one of our clients or another consulting firm a plus
Skills
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, and Outlook
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively at all levels
Delivers exceptional customer service
Proficient in time management and a self-starter
Has a reliable personal vehicle that is available for daily use to travel to job sites
Physical working requirements: Ability to do occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs. Able to walk up/down stairs Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends Ability to travel including at night Subject to outside environmental conditions
Education
High School diploma or GED required
KDOT Inspection certification required
Additional experience in engineering, drafting, survey, and/or construction management is a plus
