A well-established and growing commercial construction company with an outstanding company culture is hiring a Payroll Manager to lead their payroll operations. This role is ideal for a hands-on professional with a strong knowledge of California labor laws, prevailing wage compliance, and full-cycle payroll processing. The Payroll Manager serves as the primary point of contact for all payroll-related inquiries and is required to have a strong internal customer service approach with a proactive, solution-oriented mindset.
Payroll Manager Responsibilities:
- Process and manage weekly, full-cycle payroll for all employees
- Audit and input timecards, prevailing wage data, and fringe benefits
- Prepare and submit payroll tax payments and quarterly filings
- Reconcile payroll general ledger accounts and related benefits invoices
- Ensure compliance on public works projects by maintaining accurate wage and fringe reporting
- Support new hire onboarding, benefit enrollment, and unemployment claims
- Maintain electronic payroll and employee records
- Prepare and transmit year-end reports, including W-2s and ACA forms
Payroll Manager Requirements:
- 5+ years of in-house, full-cycle payroll experience (construction industry a plus)
- Experience processing payroll for a minimum of 150 employees
- Strong understanding of CA labor law and prevailing wage regulations
- Experience with payroll systems and benefit platforms
- Familiarity with payroll accounting and reconciliations
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
