Payroll Specialist – Your Job Duties:

You will be a key member of the accounting team processing all aspects of payroll for the construction workforce, while also managing a share of the accounts payable (AP) responsibilities.

  • Process weekly payroll for multiple business divisions for field and office employees, including union and non-union employees
  • Guarantee accurate payroll processing by tracking and applying prevailing wage rates, fringe benefits, and job classifications to ensure compliance and fair compensation
  • Oversee and reconcile critical payroll records, including detailed timecards, complex deductions, garnishments, benefits, and time off
  • Maintain union compliance, ensuring all payroll practices align with labor agreements and regulations
  • Assist with both internal and external audits and reporting
  • Assist with weekly invoice processing, reviewing and posting to maintain a smooth cash flow
  • Drive efficiency in month-end closing procedures by ensuring all invoices are posted promptly and correctly within the designated month's calendar
  • Ensure financial accuracy by precisely coding invoices to the correct job
  • Handle the submission of monthly union reports for assisted entities, keeping the company in good standing with labor organization

Payroll Specialist - Required Skills, Experience & Culture Fit

You have:

  • Construction payroll expertise, you understand change orders, complex overtime and travel pay rules, job coding, and prevailing wages
  • Accounts payable experience in a high-volume, multi-site, project-based cash-flow environment
  • Proficiency with ERP systems and various financial software, including the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Flexibility to travel to job sites as needed (within a 2-hour radius of Sacramento) to support on-site payroll and administrative functions
  • An ambitious yet humble attitude, ready to take on new challenges and assist wherever needed, even if it falls outside your primary role
  • A customer service-oriented approach to payroll, proactively responding to and resolving inquiries regarding pay, deductions, and timekeeping for all employees
  • The ability to work in the office every day to ensure seamless team collaboration and communication

You might:

  • Have experience with Union payroll
  • Be bilingual in Spanish, with proficiency in both written and spoken communication
  • Have a bachelor's degree in finance, Accounting, Business, or a related field

Payroll Specialist – Benefits & Pay for You

Your compensation will be $36 – $44 per hour, depending on your relevant experience.
