A Day in the Life of a Project Manager

As a Project Manager, you play a key role in understanding, evaluating, developing, and executing scopes of work and the overall management of projects to ensure success, efficiency, and profitability throughout the life cycle of each project. From soliciting and approving proposals from subcontractors to preparing project schedules, your attention to detail ensures a smooth operation. You tackle problems head-on, stepping in when additional responsibilities arise to support and assist crews. As the gatekeeper of paperwork and documentation, you maintain accurate records and reports. Safety and quality are paramount, and you ensure work is being performed up to industry and First Onsite standards.

Your proactive approach is crucial as you monitor project budgets, profit margins, and schedules, taking immediate action when necessary. Acting as a liaison between leadership, clients, subcontractors, and in-house personnel, you foster effective communication and collaboration. With a keen eye for detail, you manage defined scopes of work, review change orders, and ensure accurate billing. Responsibilities:

  • Overall management of the project
  • Solicit, receive, and approve proposals from subcontractors to perform within budget
  • Prepare project schedules, including job crew and subcontractors' schedules, according to the scope of work
  • Fill in as needed when additional responsibilities/tasks need to be completed, including physical labor
  • Create and maintain job activity paperwork and jobsite inventories
  • Maintain a daily log of conditions, activities, communications, and notable events
  • Prepare reports, documentation, and other job-related administrative documents
  • Report all job site accidents to safety and leadership
  • Proactively monitor and provide updates when there is a risk of a project not meeting expected
    budget, gross profit margin, or schedule
  • Manage receipt and approval of change orders
  • Review and adjust the budget based on actual costs to perform work
  • Full project oversight
  • Responsible for creating project schedule, maintaining timeline, & quality control
  • Responsible for all project documents and reporting, including, but not limited to, daily reports,
    daily sign-in timesheets, equipment records, moisture maps, and material sheets
  • Work with the Project Director team as needed to develop and manage scope, buy-outs, and change
    orders, schedules, and reserves
  • Issue work orders to subcontractors and manage their scope of work/change orders
  • Perform billing reviews to ensure the accuracy of data entered
  • Manage on-call responses of technicians and subcontractors
  • Audit and invoicing
  • Analyze the (size) scope of work and the budget to accept, reject, or revise based on actual conditions
  • Ability to respond 24/7

Experience & Education:

  • 2+ years Assistant Project Manager Experience
  • Knowledge and experience with construction drawings, specifications, and other construction-related documents, including take-offs required
  • Supervisor or APM of at least 2 Area Wide Events
  • Experience in DR or GC (single competency required)
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Basic industry training with a minimum of seven (7) current certifications
  • Valid driver's license required
