The Safety Director is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing the company's comprehensive safety program across all civil construction projects, with a primary focus on sitework (earthwork, grading, utility installation, paving, etc.). This individual will lead safety initiatives to ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company policies, and industry best practices, promoting a culture of safety across all field and office operations.

Description
Safety Program Management:
Develop, implement, and continuously improve the company's Health and Safety Program tailored to sitework operations.
Ensure all operations comply with federal, state, and local safety regulations (e.g., OSHA, DOT, EPA).
Conduct and oversee regular jobsite safety audits, risk assessments, and inspections.
Maintain and update site-specific Safety Plans, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs).
Leadership & Training:
Lead and mentor field safety personnel and project teams on safe work practices.
Develop and conduct safety training programs, orientations, toolbox talks, and refresher courses.
Champion continuous improvement and promote safety as a core value throughout the organization.
Incident & Compliance Management:
Investigate incidents, near-misses, and unsafe behaviors; document findings and drive corrective actions.
Maintain OSHA logs, safety performance metrics, and compliance documentation.
Liaise with insurance carriers, third-party safety consultants, and regulatory agencies during audits or claims processes.
Project Support:
Collaborate with project managers, superintendents, and foremen to ensure safety measures are integrated into project planning and execution.
Review and approve project safety submittals, site-specific safety plans, and subcontractor safety programs.
Attend pre-construction meetings, progress meetings, and jobsite kickoff sessions to provide safety input.
Culture & Engagement:
Foster a proactive safety culture through engagement, recognition programs, and clear communication.
Develop initiatives to increase field personnel involvement in safety practices and reporting.
Analyze safety trends and use data to drive performance improvements.
Profile
The Successful Safety Director will have:
Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, Environmental Health, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
7+ years of construction safety experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
Strong knowledge of OSHA 1926 regulations and civil/sitework operations.
Certified Safety Professional (CSP), CHST, or equivalent certification strongly preferred.
First Aid/CPR, OSHA 30-Hour Construction Certification required.
Experience managing safety for heavy civil/sitework including excavation, grading, trenching, and utility installation.
