Job Title: Superintendent Paving and Heavy Civil Construction

Salary Range: $130,000 – $150,000 annually (based on experience and qualifications)

Position Overview
SkillForce is seeking an experienced and driven Superintendent with a background in paving and heavy civil construction to oversee field operations for a respected client in Hillsborough, NJ. This is a high-impact leadership opportunity for a professional who thrives on managing complex construction projects with a commitment to safety, quality, and operational excellence.

As a Superintendent, you will lead daily field operations across multiple crews, ensuring that work is performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with contract requirements. You will work closely with project managers, foremen, subcontractors, and vendors to keep projects on schedule and within budget while maintaining top-tier workmanship.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide daily schedules and allocate labor and equipment effectively

• Communicate job plans with foremen and crews and resolve field issues

• Drive project speed, quality, and profitability through strategic planning

• Develop and manage weekly and monthly field schedules

• Monitor progress and implement proactive solutions to avoid delays

• Lead and motivate multiple field crews to perform at high levels

• Collaborate closely with the Project Management Team on scheduling and logistics

• Enforce strict adherence to safety regulations and company policies

• Maintain a clean, organized jobsite and coordinate with equipment managers

• Interpret plans, specifications, and contract documents to guide field execution

• Manage costs related to materials, subcontractors, and equipment

• Ensure timely, accurate daily reports, as-builts, and claim documentation

• Share insights with estimators from active and completed projects

• Lead safety meetings and reinforce a safety-first culture

• Mentor, train, and support the professional growth of field personnel

• Manage employee performance in line with company values and goals

• Plan and adjust field strategies to meet evolving project demands

Qualifications

• Extensive experience as a Superintendent in heavy civil and paving construction

• Proven ability to manage complex infrastructure projects from start to finish

• Deep understanding of construction plans, specifications, and safety standards

• Strong leadership, decision-making, and conflict-resolution skills

• Experience with project cost control, material procurement, and scheduling software

• Ability to interpret engineering drawings and apply them in the field

• Strong written and verbal communication skills

• Knowledge of union or prevailing wage practices is a plus

Preferred Experience

• Paving: Minimum 3 years (required)

• Supervising crews: Minimum 6 years (required)
