Purpose of Position Provide customer service to the University community by ensuring clean, sanitary, and inviting environment. Perform skilled carpentry work involving, but not limited to, construction, repair, renovation and refinishing of walls, windows, doors, ceilings, cove base and carpet.
Primary Responsibilities
Perform carpentry work in the construction, repair and renovation of facades, roofs, floors, partitions, ceilings, stairways, doors, windows, and screens. Installs, replaces, repairs, patches, or cuts: ceiling tiles, carpet, cove base, vinyl floors, linoleum, wooden floors, quarry tile, windows(screens, hardware, glass, mini-blinds),blackboards, whiteboards, pencil sharpeners, bulletin boards, shelving, signs, banners, towel bars/hooks, classroom furniture and casework.
Safely operate woodworking equipment and machines to saw, plane, drill or mortise lumber for doors, cabinets, shelves, molding and related fixtures; cut mortises for locks and hinges; hang doors.
Install lock hardware using proper A.D.A. guidelines in applications.
Estimate amount of required material and supplies for projects.
Perform related duties as assigned by Supervisor.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma/GED with Vocational school certification.
Valid Driver's License required
Minimum 5 years related work experience
Knowledge of: Proper use of different types of wood products.
Lumber, grading system and the correct application
Different types of fasteners and guidelines for using them
Ability to perform/show the ability to perform the following: Erect scaffolding correctly and know terms and safety guidelines of the scaffolding.
Safely operate various equipment: aerial lifts, power generators, compressors, pneumatic tools.
Read blueprints correctly, work from sketches and verbal instructions and be able to layout assigned work.
Must be able to perform the following with frequent medium/heavy exertion including but not limited to: bending, stooping, reaching above head/shoulders, pushing, pulling, working in confined spaces, lifting, etc.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience working in a construction company or other commercial/industrial setting
