Ledgent Finance & Accounting is currently seeking an experienced Accountant / Accounting Clerk to join their client who is a family-owned construction subcontractor company. This role is crucial for managing the financial operations of the company, particularly focusing on accounts receivable, accounts payable, and payroll for both union and administrative employees. The position is onsite in Benicia, CA, and offers the opportunity for long-term employment with the potential for growth and stability within a supportive team environment.
Responsibilities
- Handle accounts receivable, accounts payable, and payroll functions
- Manage all new hire onboarding paperwork, including data entry, reference checks, and compliance with I-9 documents.
- Assist with compiling timecard information for payroll processing and ensure accurate payroll submissions.
- Arrange meetings, compile reports, and compose letters and verifications of employment as directed.
- Handle a high volume of inbound telephone calls and emails, ensuring prompt and professional responses.
- Administer benefits and open enrollment, ensuring all employees are informed and enrolled as needed.
- Support all onboarding functions and ensure a positive HR experience with every employee interaction.
- Assist with internal and external job movement, including the preparation of job postings and new hire packets.
- Develop and implement HR best practices, ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
- 3 - 5 years of experience in accounting or a related administrative role
- Experience in construction subcontractor industry.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, is required.
- Experience with Sage 300 is preferred
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to work efficiently and learn quickly.
- Ability to handle approximately 50 invoices per week and maintain organized records.
- Team-oriented mindset with the ability to adapt and stay fluid in a dynamic environment.
Monday - Friday, 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with a one-hour lunch break.
Salary
$30-40 per hour / DOE

The candidate will report to the Controller, who has a coaching mentality and values fairness and knowledge-sharing. The ideal candidate will be looking for a long-term position with the potential to retire from the company. This role may lead to the replacement of current staff after a transition period. The anticipated start date for this position is September 1, 2025. The interview process includes a meeting with the Controller, followed by a meeting with executive leadership.
