This vacancy is for a Construction Control Inspector located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, CG Academy Facilities Engineering Branch. Responsibilities include overseeing and inspecting a wide range of construction projects at the USCGA. Typical work assignments include:

  • Inspecting in progress or upon completion, contractor operations, methods, techniques, and materials to ensure conformance with plans and specifications.
  • Assuring compliance by contractor with safe working conditions, practices, and labor laws.
  • Participating in the development of construction project scopes of work from user requirements.
  • Interpreting and clarifying construction plans and specifications exercising considerable independent judgment in distinguishing between compliance and non-compliance workmanship, materials, equipment, and safety requirements.
  • Recommending change orders and modifications to contract due to unforeseen site conditions, incorporating material and cost estimates.
  • Preparing and writing detailed reports on deficiencies found during inspections.

Requirements include:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Must be registered or exempt from the Selective Service.
  • A one-year probationary period may be required.
  • Suitable for Federal employment determined by background investigation.
  • All Federal employees are required to have Federal salary payments made by direct deposit.

Qualifications include:

  • Specialized experience must include engineering aid or technician or surveying technician performing work directly related to construction.
  • Construction inspector or construction representative responsible for interpreting plans and specifications, inspecting materials and workmanship, and insuring adherence to safety requirements.
  • Supervisor of craftsperson's, equipment operators, or mechanics engaged in construction work, provided that the experience involved responsibility for interpreting plans and specifications and inspecting workmanship for adherence to such plans and specifications.
  • Education can be substituted for experience at this grade level.
