A well-established and growing construction firm in the Kansas City metro is looking to add an experienced Estimator to their team. This is a key role supporting preconstruction and operations by producing accurate, timely, and competitive estimates across a range of commercial or industrial projects. We’re looking for someone who understands how to build, not just crunch numbers and can confidently manage both conceptual and hard-bid estimating processes.
Key Responsibilities: Lead the full estimating process for assigned projects, from initial takeoff to final proposal Review architectural, civil, and MEP drawings to prepare detailed cost breakdowns and scopes Perform quantity takeoffs, develop labor and material pricing, and evaluate subcontractor bids Collaborate with the preconstruction, project management, and field teams to align estimates with actual constructability and project timelines Identify value engineering opportunities and assess risks or gaps in project documents Support bid strategies and participate in bid reviews, client presentations, and pre-bid meetings Maintain historical cost data and stay current on material pricing and industry trends Build and manage relationships with subcontractors, vendors, and design teams
Qualifications: 5–10+ years of experience in construction estimating (GC, subcontractor, or developer background welcome) Proven track record estimating commercial, industrial, or civil projects in the $1M–$50M+ range Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., On-Screen Takeoff, Bluebeam Revu, Sage, Trimble, PlanSwift, etc.) Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and construction documents Strong Excel and data analysis skills Solid understanding of construction means and methods, scheduling, and phasing Excellent communication skills and the ability to present and defend estimates internally and externally Based in Kansas City or open to relocation
