Job Description Summary
This position may be eligible for a signing bonus, referral incentive and/or moving reimbursement.

Performs quality assurance inspections and related activities for construction projects within the City including developer related infrastructure projects and City capital improvement projects for grading, drainage, water, sewer, streets, traffic control, landscape warranty, and other related items. Reviews, approves, and documents field changes in assigned area. Approves traffic control and monitors landscape warranty maintenance permits. Maintains proper documentation of projects throughout two (2) year warranty maintenance period. Performs warranty inspections on storm drain, water, sewer, concrete, paving, sign, stripe, landscape and generate punch list for all deficiencies found. Upon completion of the punch list items, coordinates with developer to conduct warranty final inspection, accept project, and closeout for City to begin maintaining within right-of-way.
The ideal candidate will have 4 or more years of civil construction inspection and testing experience relating to residential parcel development, industrial and commercial property development and dry utility installations. The ideal candidate will have basic knowledge of safety and traffic control principles and concepts. The ideal candidate will be proficient in reading and understanding civil construction plans and interpreting specifications and details. The ideal candidate will be knowledgable in construction materials, means and methods as well as the ability to complete inspection reports and forms accurately. 12 Month Objectives

  1. Within the first month, review and become familiar with all chapters of the City's Engineering Design Standards and Policies Manual, City quarter section maps and other maps used in engineering review and planning.
  2. Within the first month, schedule enough time with your supervisor to review and understand the City's performance feedback system and rating elements.
  3. Within the first month, become familiar with the contact persons from other departments and utility purveyors to which construction activities are coordinated with.
  4. Within the first three months, become familiar with the City's policies and procedures relating to subdivision and commercial development as well as dry utility installations in the right of ways.
  5. Within the first three months, become familiar with inspector areas and projects located within those boundaries.
  6. Within the first three months, work to establish, foster and support open communication with staff in all divisions within Development Services, private utility purveyors and other City departments necessary to coordinate activities.
  7. Within the first six months, become familiar with and display behaviors that align with the Development Services Department, Continuous Improvement, City Core Values and the City Strategic Plan.
  8. Within the first six months, become proficient in understanding the permitting process, MAG Standard Specifications, Engineering Design Standards and Policies Manual, inspection policy and procedures and all testing requirements and processes relating to construction activities you are assigned.
  9. Within the first six months become proficient with the permitting and inspection processes as it relates to commercial and sub-division development, including documentation required during the construction process and prior to acceptance.
  10. Within the first six months become proficient in the city software and electronic devices.
  11. Within the first twelve months, seek out and attend training courses for knowledge and/ or certification in areas that will benefit yourself and the Civil Inspections Team.
  12. Within the first twelve months, become proficient in as-built review and approval.
  13. Within the first twelve months, complete all assigned City and position required training.
  14. Within the first twelve months, seek and attend courses in traffic control and obtain a certification in basic traffic control and flagging.
