The Capital Projects department of the Utah Transit Authority (UTA) is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Entry-Level Construction Inspector for immediate employment. The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate a basic knowledge of design standards and construction inspection/oversight-related principles. Support UTA’s Quality and Construction Oversight Manager by being responsible for jobsite quality assurance of construction materials and processes as well as scheduling of UTA’s internal and external quality inspection crews for multiple construction projects.
Ensures oversight for a variety of cross-disciplinary engineering and construction projects including conducting on-site construction inspections to ensure contractor compliance with UTA standards and specifications.
Provides inspection mentoring and training to other team members. Confidently aware and experienced with inspecting installations on complex projects.
Able to lead in contract interpretation and understanding to preserve UTA’s best interests in field negotiations.
Performs constructability reviews of pre-construction design plans. Conducts on-site inspections of third-party utilities’ construction activities within UTA right-of-way to ensure compliance with permit approved materials and methods.
Coordinates quality assurance inspections and materials testing during construction. Manages material certification documentation and ensures that daily inspection files are accurately maintained. Attends internal and external project meetings.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION/TRAINING: High School Diploma, requiredBachelors Degree, Construction Management, Construction Technology, Building Inspection or other applicable degreeUDOT CITP certified, a plus EXPERIENCE: 7+ years of experience in quality and/or construction inspection oversight. 5+ years of experience in rail inspection preferred.- OR -An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.[UTA reserves the right to determine the equivalencies of education and experience.] Knowledge: AREMA
Spreadsheet, word processing, and standard office software, preferred
Familiar with Procore project management software.
Basic knowledge of construction management concepts/techniques; . critical path, scheduling, estimating, understanding construction plans, etc.
Basic knowledge of Microsoft Project or other related scheduling software.
Familiar with modern office methods, practices, procedures and equipment, as well as filing systems and business letter writing and competent in correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and arithmetic.
Knowledgeable of the materials testing processes commonly used in construction for testing soil compaction, concrete, and HMA.

To carry out essential functions of this job, must have a valid Utah’s driver’s license with no more than four moving violations in the past three years; or, if a non-driver, must be able to travel efficiently by another means to and from varied locations within UTA’s service area. Lack of a driver’s license does not necessarily preclude employment.
