Civil Construction Engineering Inspector – Structures Focused ($25 - $38 / hr) Cincinnati, Ohio Are you an experienced inspector with a background in structural components such as bridges and retaining walls ? We are seeking a Civil Construction Engineering Inspector with proven experience inspecting structures to join our growing team in the Cincinnati, Ohio area. As part of our team, you will report directly to the Construction Engineer and be responsible for on-site quality assurance and inspection , with a heavy focus on structure-related work . Experience inspecting bridges and other structural elements is essential for this role. Key Responsibilities: Read and interpret project plans, specifications, and construction documents. Conduct full-time construction inspection and quality assurance on bridge and structural elements , including substructure, superstructure, parapets, retaining walls, and more. Perform construction material testing including concrete (all material testing provided). Identify deficient work and coordinate with contractors for corrective actions. Prepare detailed daily reports and maintain accurate documentation. Take measurements and photographs to support quality tracking. Attend and assist with construction meetings as needed. Required Skills & Qualifications: Working knowledge of structural construction practices , including ODOT/ bridge design standards. Ability to independently inspect complex bridge components including reinforcement, formwork, concrete placement, bearings, joints, and finishes. Comfortable working around active bridge or structure sites. Self-motivated and capable of logical problem-solving in the field. Strong comprehension of construction drawings, specs, and civil plan sets. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and digital documentation. Ability to work outdoors in all conditions, including nights/weekends when needed. Ability to lift around 20 pounds (material testing). Additional Technical Skills (Preferred): Familiarity with ODOT CMS , standard drawings, and structure inspection methods. Experience with ODOT’s AWP system . Experience with digital field reporting tools (iPads, apps, etc.). Minimum Requirements: Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record. High school diploma or GED required. Associate or Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred. Non-degreed candidates considered if they meet one of the following: NICET Level I or II in Highway Construction. 1,600 hours of relevant inspection or material testing within the last 10 years. Prior ODOT experience (HT3–HT5, TM1–TM3, or TA classifications). Ability to report to projects within Cincinnati and travel as needed to nearby regions.
