Job Title

Inspects the construction of public infrastructure associated with CIP and private development projects for compliance with plans, specification, and city requirements.

Perform inspections by checking materials, equipment, methods and workmanship for compliance, checking line and grade, performing air testing, deflection testing, vacuum testing and bacteriological testing, checking test reports for compliance, checking traffic control and ensuring safety standards are enforced.

Document work by preparing reports and updates, filing submittals, correspondences and estimates, maintaining a daily detailed diary, preparing and responding to correspondences, maintaining accurate field notes, preparing final as-builts, tracking contractors time and measuring and calculating quantities for payment.

Communicate with personnel and others by working with developers, contractors, suppliers and engineering firms, responding to complaints, advising the public of work and delays, handling disputes, and communicating with staff.

Research for regulations by studying plans and specifications, reviewing plans and researching TCEQ, OSHA, ASTM, AWWA, MUTCD and TX DOT regulations and specifications.

Perform other duties as may be assigned.

Knowledge of public works construction practices, materials, and accepted safety practices in public works construction.

Knowledge of construction layout surveying.

Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.

Basic knowledge of surveying, math, mapping, and construction related techniques and practices.

Ability to read and understand civil engineering construction plans, specifications and standards.

Ability to judge materials, methods and workmanship in relation to requirements.

Ability to keep records and prepare simple drawings and reports.

Ability to interact with the general public and have good interpersonal skills.
