Construction Laborer
Job Description:
Performs variety of physical tasks on construction sites, assisting skilled tradespeople and supporting the overall construction process.They may dig trenches, load and unload materials, operate equipment, and clean the site, while also following safety regulations.
Detailed Responsibilities:
Site Preparation and Cleanup:
- Clearing debris and obstacles:Removing trash, debris, and other materials from the worksite.
- Digging trenches and back filling holes: Preparing ground for foundations, utilities, and other infrastructure.
- Compacting earth:Using equipment to ensure proper soil density for stability.
- Removing hazardous materials:Handling and disposing of hazardous materials safely.
- Maintaining a clean and organized work area:Keeping the site free of clutter to promote safety and efficiency.
Material Handling and Equipment Operation:
Loading and unloading materials:
Moving building materials like lumber, concrete, and pipes to the worksite.
Positioning and securing materials:
Ensuring materials are properly placed and secured for safe handling and construction.
Operating hand and power tools:
Using tools like saws, drills, and hammers to assist in various tasks.
Operating light and heavy equipment:
Using machinery like forklifts, concrete mixers, and other equipment as needed.On-site training is available.
Assisting Tradespeople:
- Helping skilled workers:Providing assistance to carpenters, plumbers, electricians, and other tradespeople.
- Reading plans and specifications:Understanding blueprints and instructions to perform tasks correctly.
- Following instructions from supervisors:Adhering to instructions and guidelines from project leaders.
Other Duties:
- Mixing concrete:Preparing concrete /grout mixtures for pouring and use in construction.
- Installing and assembling structures and fixtures:Assisting with the installation of various components of the construction.
- Completing on-the-job training:Learning new skills and techniques as needed for specific projects.
Physical Requirements
- Physically able to lift to 75 pounds, occasionally
- Physically able to push, pull, lift, bend, climb, kneel, twist, squat, crawl, and use hands/forearms repetitively and frequently
- Ability to move around for up to 12 hours per day
- Ability to work from ladders, scaffolding, swing stages, and man lifts at various heights frequently
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods
- Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for typing, filing, and using office equipment
- Visual acuity and ability to read small print
- Hearing acuity and ability to communicate effectively with others
- Ability to lift and move office supplies and equipment
- Mobility and ability to move around the office as needed
Working Conditions
- Moderate to high risk of exposure to unusual elements
- Moderate to high risk of safety precautions
- Moderate to high exposure to production environment
- Wet, hot, humid, and wintry conditions
- Ability to work outside year-round
