Description
The Construction Loan Officer is responsible for soliciting and procuring new construction mortgage business, maintaining contact with their existing customer database, and developing a reliable network of builder and conventional referral sources. Assist the member, processing, Underwriting, and Closing departments of the Credit Union through each loan transaction. Construction Loan Originators help their clients choose the best loan for their needs by being knowledgeable about all our product offerings, as well as having a working understanding of underwriting guidelines. Major Duties and Responsibilities
Solicit new and existing members as well as builder clients for referrals and loans.
Originate construction mortgage loans in accordance with Credit Union policies and procedures.
Advise customers on product options.
Assist loan processors and underwriters by obtaining complete documents from borrowers.
Determine loan pricing/rates and assist members in securing/locking loan rates.
Qualifications
Knowledge and Skills
Experience
Three years to five years of similar or related experience, including preparatory experience. Three years of mortgage industry experience within construction loan originations preferred.
Education/Certifications/Licenses
Active NMLS loan originators license is required. Proven track record generating organic referrals, particularly builder/realtor relationships. A high school degree or equivalent

Other Skills
• Knowledge of single close and two-time close construction procedures.
• Basic understanding of project structuring and cost calculation methodology.
• Familiarity with construction documents and disclosures.
• Evaluate loan applications to determine the borrower's financial standing, creditworthiness and feasibility of the construction project.
• Expertise with stick built, modular, and manufactured homes.
• Must be motivated and confident with excellent interpersonal skills and exceptional communication skills
• Must understand basic mathematic principles and be familiar with various computer software programs and comfortable with automated technology. Must be able to type, use a PC and general office equipment.
• Must have strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to report facts and technical information clearly and concisely.
• Accuracy and attention to detail are essential. Must demonstrate the ability to respond in a timely manner.
• Have strong problem-solving skills and the ability to utilize resources to seek help for resolution of loan issues as needed. Foster strong relationships with builders, realtors, developers, and other referral resources to generate new loan opportunities. ADA Requirements
Physical Requirements
Is able to bend, sit, and stand in order to perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 10 lbs. Must be capable of climbing / descending stairs in an emergency situation. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including computer terminals and keyboards, telephones, copiers, facsimiles, and calculators. Must be able to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day, when necessary. Must be able to work extended hours or travel off site whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of regular, reliable and timely attendance.
Working Conditions
Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with minimal noise.
Mental and/or Emotional Requirements
Must be able to perform job functions independently or with limited supervision and work effectively either on own or as part of a team. Must be able to read and carry out various written instructions and follow oral instructions. Must be able to complete basic mathematical calculations, spell accurately, and understand computer basics. Must be able to speak clearly and deliver information in a logical and understandable sequence. Must be capable of dealing calmly and professionally with numerous different personalities from diverse cultures at various levels within and outside of the organization and demonstrate highest levels of customer service and discretion when dealing with the public. Must be able to perform responsibilities with composure under the stress of deadlines / requirements for extreme accuracy and quality and/or fast pace. Must be able to effectively handle multiple, simultaneous, and changing priorities. Must be capable of exercising highest level of discretion on both internal and external confidential matters.
