PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
Lead the Revenue Accounting and Reporting team to implement and sustain best in class processes to account, forecast, and report revenue and related revenue metrics to meet the requirements of various key internal and external stakeholders.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Lead revenue accounting and reporting activities to ensure daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly accounting and reporting requirements are completed accurately and on-time
Manage and review team journal entries and account reconciliations to ensure the accurate recognition of revenue, including variable consideration, and compliance with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (U.S. GAAP)
Maintain exemplary relationships with multiple internal stakeholders that support the accounting and reporting process (marketing and sales, network services centre, interline, facilities) or require its output (senior leadership, investor relations)
Research and analyze technical accounting literature in relationship to complex revenue accounting contracts and provide guidance to key stakeholders
Lead and monitor the other freight and non-freight forecast and budget process to sustain and improve forecast accuracy
Oversee and guide in the preparation of freight and non-freight revenue analysis for internal and external reporting, including monthly results review, quarterly management discussion and analysis, annual report, and revenue metrics within the summary of rail data
Lead and assist in the development of materials for senior leadership, including Board documents and support for the quarterly earnings call
Participate in Accounting Policy Committee meetings and ensure the accurate administration of revenue accounting policies
Coach, supervise, and develop direct reports including the establishment of tailored career development plans
Oversee and review reporting of weekly performance metrics on CPKC’s external website
Ensure underlying processes comply with internal controls, Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) requirements
Address and respond to queries from auditors and internal reviewers
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Accounting Designation required: Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Chartered Accountant (CA)
5 to 10 years of overall accounting experience with a minimum of 2 years of experience in a leadership role
Knowledge of accounting standards and regulatory requirements applicable to public companies
Strong computer skills, including advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders
Ability to set and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
High degree of financial acumen and ability to analyze and interpret data to deliver concise conclusions and recommendations

Management Conductor Program
Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
