The Construction Science and Management (CSM) Program at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK) is seeking a dynamic individual for a faculty position at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor (12-month appointment, with a 70% teaching and 30% Extension appointment). The responsibilities of this position include serving as the CSM Program Director, delivering coursework in the construction curriculum, and delivering an Extension education program to promote the success of Tennessee contractors. All these duties will be conducted in support of the University’s land grant mission. Exceptionally qualified candidates will be considered for the Haslam Family Professorship, which provides a salary supplement for the first five years of employment. For any such candidate, the Herbert College of Agriculture will strive to secure an endowment to support this position beyond the initial Haslam Family Professorship funding.

Housed in the Biosystems Engineering and Soil Science Department (BESS), the CSM Program, which began in 2010, has an undergraduate population of approximately 330 students and has a short-term goal of increasing student enrollment to 400. The program has become nationally recognized for providing graduates with the background and critical thinking skills needed to contribute to the construction industry of the future. The program has an annual career fair that attracts 100+ companies. The CSM Program currently has five faculty members and one adjunct lecturer. This program’s short-term vision is to increase the number of faculty and create academic concentrations to give our students a choice between vertical and linear construction. Duties/Responsibilities:  The successful candidate will provide oversight of the teaching, research, and Extension activities of the CSM Program, collaborate with faculty to expand the program’s national recognition, deliver construction coursework (Fundamentals of Building Systems, Construction Estimating I and II, and other courses as needed), deliver Extension programming to support the success of Tennessee’s contractor community, and engage with representatives of the construction industry. This position reports directly to the Department Head of BESS.

Specific duties and responsibilities will include:

·Teaching courses within the CSM curriculum,

·Supporting the expansion and evolution of the current curriculum, including the development of concentrations and a graduate program,

·Supporting the development of a nationally recognized construction science program through participation in national and international construction education organizations and competitions,

·Maintaining a strong commitment to departmental, institutional, and professional citizenship, including advising/mentoring student associations, participating in associated enrichment activities, and serving on departmental, college, and professional committees,

·Maintaining a collegial work environment in which both individual effort and teamwork are valued and respected,

·Representing the CSM program on the Herbert College of Agriculture Undergraduate Council,

·Promoting the program’s success in pursuit of American Council for Construction Education (ACCE) accreditation,

·Supporting the development of relationships with the various construction industry constituencies through collaboration. This will include working closely with the Construction Science Advocacy Executive Board. Additionally, the successful candidate will promote the program by interacting with national contractor associations and equipment/material suppliers,

·Maintaining relationships with other colleges and partner departments on campus (such as landscape architecture, civil engineering, and computer science) to make the best use of expertise and resources that already exist at UTK, and ·Developing and implementing an outreach and Extension program.

Earned . in Engineering / Building Science / Construction or related field.

· Have qualifications for appointment as an Associate Professor or Full Professor as described in the UTK Faculty Handbook ().

· Demonstrate an ability to mentor faculty in the areas of teaching, research, and outreach.

· Have a proven track record of effective teaching skills and curriculum development.

· Demonstrate a commitment to students and student involvement.
