JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Construction Site Assistant - 1-Year Term Contract Department: Construction

Reports to: Construction Field Manager Payroll Status: hourly, non-exempt

Work Week: Tuesday – Saturday; 8:00 – 4:30 Pay Grade: 3; $17.00/hour


Please note: Due to grant funding, applicants must be current residents of the City of Rochester to be considered for this position.


Greater Rochester Habitat for Humanity is looking to expand our local construction team with passionate, hands-on individuals.

As a Construction Site Assistant, you'll play a key role in building and repairing homes. Working under the guidance of a Construction Supervisor, you'll help lead groups of skilled and unskilled volunteers—including future homeowners—through daily construction tasks, all while promoting a safe and productive work environment.

Job Responsibilities:

• Assist with all aspects of hands-on construction tasks including, but not limited to, demolition, site prep, framing, insulation, drywall, flooring, roofing, finish carpentry and landscaping.

• Lead small groups of volunteers and facilitate safe and positive experiences for everyone working on site.

• Maintain site safety by adhering to Habitat construction safety policies, modeling best practices and guidelines, volunteer instruction and site monitoring.

• Work projects may include new construction, rehabilitation, critical home repair and weatherization projects.

Requirements:

Minimum requirements:

  • Applicant must be a U.S. citizen, national or lawful permanent resident.
  • Applicant must reside in the city of Rochester.
  • Applicant must be at least 18 or older.
  • Applicant must have a high school diploma or GED.

Preferred qualifications:

  • A current valid driver’s license with an insurable driving record strongly preferred
  • Ability to drive large pickup trucks, or be willing to learn.
  • Past participation in a local construction education program.
  • Knowledge of and willingness to promote the mission of Habitat for Humanity
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of people.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Experience working with volunteers, instructing individuals or facilitating groups.
  • Experience working as a member of a team.
  • Ability to reliably commute to Beechwood neighborhood


Physical requirements:

  • Ability to be on one’s feet for extended periods of time, often on rough and uneven terrain.
  • Ability to lift at least 50 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Ability to work on ladders and heights up to two stories.
  • Ability to work in varying weather conditions.

Service site environment:

Service site is an active construction site, often with rough and uneven terrain. Construction Site Assistants will work both indoors and outdoors during all types of weather. Construction tools will be provided.
