Superintendent Job Overview
The Superintendent works closely with the Project Manager to ensure that projects are completed on time and within budget. On a day-to-day basis, the Superintendent may:
Supervise construction workers and subcontractors—including carpenters, electricians, and other trades—to ensure smooth project progress.
Coordinate and communicate with clients, consultants, property management teams, and the design team.
Monitor construction activities to enforce safety standards and protocols.
Ensure all work complies with local building codes and regulations.
The Superintendent is responsible for overseeing field staff and contractors on the job site. This role includes planning, managing, and executing construction efforts at the site. Below are the critical tasks of the position:
Meet operational standards by solving problems, strategic planning and identify improvements.
Timely documentation of field reports and email correspondence.
Supervise subcontractors and evaluate, monitor, and ensure their performance and compliance.
Travel to and supervise multiple sites during the day/nights.
Schedule, and oversee field staff for OSHA safety and compliance, meal and rest period, over-time, and documentation from the office. Assist the Human Resource department in adhering to policy and procedures, and notify HR immediately of injury or disciplinary actions that need to take place.
Accomplish project goals by defining scope and purpose of the project.
Meet budget by monitoring project expenses, providing operating information to the Project Manager and discussing at weekly project meeting.
Approve projects by gaining approvals in bid scope vs. project requirements from buyers and performing inspections at critical phases of each project.
Prevent interruptions and fines by monitoring and enforcing codes.
Determine and allocate required resources, resolve design problems, evaluate deadline estimates, implement change orders, and adjust as needed.
Establish protocols and standards, work with preconstruction team to conduct site surveys, establish scope and obtain required permits, including key inspections.
Read, understand, and implement site plans.
Desired Skillset
Below is a list of the preferred qualifications and skillsets for this role:
High school diploma or GED required
Valid driver’s license, cleared background verification
Must be extremely detail-oriented, with attention to accuracy
Excellent organization and planning skills
Strong leadership skills
Ability to work under pressure
Commercial General Contractor experience a plus
Strong verbal and written communication for effective collaboration and customer service
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
Computer proficient, with experience in Outlook, Excel, Project, and Word
Compensation Range and Benefits.
$95,000-$125,000 annually. Compensation is offered based on work history, years of experience, professional achievements and other nondiscriminatory metrics and factors. This is a full-time, in-office role.
