Job Description
The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is looking for a self-motivated individual to complete tasks with little to no supervision and strive to advance the use of Digital Delivery tools and procedures in the preconstruction and construction fields. You will be part of a team assessing, testing and implementing processes at the forefront of Digital Delivery efforts. You will be responsible for resolving complex operation and/or data processing issues and may monitor system performance; make recommendations for enhancements; review systems to ensure compliance with procedures, policies, regulations; and facilitate/chair work groups, etc.
Principal Duties
As the Construction Survey Support Technician, your duties may include, but are not limited to: Sets goals, establishes priorities, manages resources, develops concepts and approaches, reviews projects progress and results; makes management decisions.
Oversees the development, evaluation or review of plans and criteria for a variety of activities; assesses feasibility of proposed plans, projects and equipment.
Utilizing computer software programs to store data, retrieve stored data, analyze retrieved data, and arrange results in a format that effectively supports the organization's production activities
Coordinating the use of information analysis related hardware, software, and data with the organization's employees and/or the public
Interfacing with data processing users to automate applications and/or resolve application and operating problems
Helping customers identify better ways to utilize the system's capabilities
Estimating project costs
Assuring deadlines are met
Negotiating common standards for data formats
Assessing needs for data analysis related hardware, software, and data
Making recommendations to management for improving and/or maintaining effective information analysis support for the organization.
UAS application at the project level including set up, application determination, and software platforms
Develop and test new innovative processes relative to Digital Delivery and Digital Twins
Test tools used for digital design review and digital construction
Support field staff with digital tools
Participates in the selection of consulting engineers, oversees and reviews their work product.
Minimum Qualifications
In order to qualify you must have all of the following: At least five (5) years of combined experience surveying, construction surveying, transportation construction, transportation construction inspection or UAS operations experience
A valid driver's license or be able to obtain one within the first 6 months of hire.
A UAS Pilot - FAA Part 107 Certification or be able to obtain within the first 6 months of hire
Preferences
Preference may be given to those with at least one of the following: Degree in Survey and Geomatics, Geodocy, or related field or equivalent experience
Professional Land Surveyor in the State of Utah
Experience and knowledge of Land Survey techniques LiDAR
Quantity take offs using cut/fill tracking, LandXML surface extractions, etc.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Here are some of the knowledge, skills and abilities that are typically associated with the job, though not all-inclusive: Knowledge of Bentley, Esri, Trimble, and Autodesk software
Knowledge of Aurigo, specifically Masterworks
Ability to deliver presentations and training
Excellent communication skills both verbally and in writing
Computer expertise using MicroSoft Office or Google Suite applications and spreadsheet software
Understanding of GIS, BIM, UDOT Digital Delivery, Digital Construction and Data Capture processes
Understanding of UDOT Standard Specifications and Drawings and how Standards changes
Proficiency with UDOT design development and advertisement processes described within the UDOT Project Delivery Network (PDN).
Construction inspection workflow and processes described within the Construction MOI and Standard Specifications
Communicate directly with Vendor Support with product issues
Knowledge of UAS regulations and requirements

However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, books, small parts; driving an automobile, etc. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
Working Conditions - Risks found in the typical office setting, which is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated, e.g., safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc.
Employee may be reassigned to a different location as deemed necessary by the Region Director/Group Leader.
