We are seeking a knowledgeable and proactive Construction Controller to join our team and provide expert accounting oversight and financial management support for our construction clients. Position Overview: As a Construction Controller within our firm, you will be the primary accounting and financial expert supporting multiple construction clients. You will oversee financial reporting, budgeting, job costing, billing, and compliance, helping contractors and developers manage their financial operations efficiently and accurately. Your expertise will be key in maintaining accurate accounting records and ensuring timely, transparent financial communication between our firm and client management teams. Key Responsibilities: Manage all accounting and financial functions for multiple construction clients, including accounts payable/receivable, job costing, AIA billing, and payroll coordination. Prepare, review, and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and supporting project schedules tailored to construction projects. Develop and maintain client-specific project budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections; monitor budget variances and provide actionable financial insight. Support clients during audits and tax preparation, liaising directly with CPA tax teams and external auditors as needed. Establish and maintain strong internal controls, compliance with GAAP, and accurate reporting aligned with construction industry standards. Lead and mentor junior accounting staff or client bookkeepers as needed to ensure timely and accurate financial management. Communicate professionally with client project managers, subcontractors, vendors, and banking institutions to resolve financial issues and improve systems. Participate in firm special projects related to construction accounting, including software implementation and process improvements. Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA designation strongly preferred. Minimum 3 years experience in construction accounting or as a construction controller, preferably within a CPA firm or public accounting environment. Proven knowledge of construction accounting software such as QuickBooks, Spectrum, or similar job cost/accounting systems. Strong leadership and supervisory skills with experience managing accounting teams or client/bookkeeper relationships. Solid understanding of job costing, AIA billing, retainage, contracts, change orders, and lien waivers. Exceptional attention to detail, analytical skills, and ability to handle multiple client projects simultaneously. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, and comfortable working with large data sets. Excellent communication skills to liaise effectively with clients, management, and external partners in a professional manner.
