Controller - Construction, Real Estate Development & Property Operations

Motive Companies is currently hiring for our expanding commercial real estate division in. This division includes operations across general contracting, development, and property management. We are seeking a hands-on Accounting Controller to lead and support financial strategy and operational infrastructure across multiple business lines.
This is a full-time, in-office leadership position based in Long Beach. The Controller will serve as the central financial lead, partnering with ownership and executive leadership. This role also provides oversight across HR and IT functions to support a scalable, efficient operation.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
1. Financial Leadership
- Oversee accounting across A/P, A/R, payroll, general ledger, reconciliations, and reporting
- Manage job costing and monthly WIP (Work in Progress) reporting
- Build and maintain cash flow forecasting tools across business lines
- Lead tax planning and audit preparation in coordination with external CPA firms
- Ensure financial reporting compliance with GAAP and industry standards
- Utilize Sage 300 and Yardi to drive reporting efficiency and financial visibility
2. Project & Compliance Oversight
- Manage financials for bonded projects including prevailing wage and certified payroll reporting
- Maintain communication with sureties and bonding agents to support reporting and bonding capacity
- Assist in financial planning during restructuring, refinancing, or ownership transition events
3. HR & IT Oversight
- Lead payroll processing, benefits administration, and HR compliance tracking
- Manage vendor relationships and system implementation for IT platforms
- Ensure secure, scalable IT and HR systems across the company
Compensation & Benefits:
- Base Salary: $150,000 to $165,000 depending on experience

Minimum Qualifications:
- Active CCIFP certification (Required)
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA preferred)
- At least 10 years of progressive financial leadership in general contracting, development, or property management
Technical Experience Must Include:
- Proficiency with Sage 300, Yardi, and Excel
- Strong background in:
- Job costing and cash flow forecasting
- Multi-entity financial reporting
- Bonded project accounting and prevailing wage compliance
- Tax preparation and audit support
- Payroll and HR systems
- Managing IT vendors and integrations
