Salary: $100,000 - $130,000 About the Job We are seeking an ambitious, professional, and organized Cost Accountant to oversee financial tracking, cost reporting, and budget management for heavy civil construction project(s). This role combines both accounting expertise with a practical understanding of construction operations, working closely with project management and operations teams to ensure accurate, timely cost reporting and forecasting.

Role and Responsibilities Cost Reporting and Tracking: Monitor, track, analyze, and report actual project costs vs. budget, identifying trends, discrepancies, and areas for cost control; provide insights for decision making. Prepare and maintain detailed cost reports, forecasts, and earned value analysis for internal stakeholders. Budget Management: Maintain and update project budgets, ensuring accurate application of direct and indirect costs across cost codes, phases, and project components. Production Review: Collaborate with project team to ensure real-time, accurate tracking of labor, materials, equipment, and other project costs. Develop a production tracking framework to accurate reflect and monitor production and milestones of project. Financial Reporting: Assist in preparing monthly financial statements, work-in-progress schedules, and project billing. Change Order Management: Evaluate and document the financial impact of change orders, ensuring proper cost allocation and compliance of contract terms. Support negotiations by providing cost estimates and analyses. Software Utilization: Leverage construction accounting software (e.g. Procore, Sage Intacct, MS Excel) to streamline cost tracking, reporting and payroll processes. Ensure data integrity and system optimization for project-specific needs. Collaboration and Compliance: Work closely with project managers, project superintendents, estimators, project engineers to align financial data with operational progress. Ensure compliance with company policies, industry standards, and regulations in all cost accounting activities.
Qualifications Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or Construction Management 3-5 years of experience in cost accounting or project accounting (construction experience preferred). Strong knowledge of job costing, cost coding, budget vs. actual tracking, and Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs). Experience with data analysis, forecasting, and earned value management is a plus. Familiarity with construction tools like Sage Intacct, Procore, and certified payroll reporting, a plus. Excellent attention to detail, time management, and communication skills. Comfortable working full-time in a field-based construction environment, including regular jobsite interaction.
