Education/Experience
Education and Experience: High School Diploma/GED. Minimum of 5 years construction experience in sanitation systems or closely related area. Prefer a minimum of one year supervisory or team lead experience. Equivalent combination of education, skills, training and experience may be considered. Must possess or obtain at least a Class B CDL within 6 months.
Position Summary
Leads City construction crews assigned to projects and repairs for the City. Performs repair and construction of waste/wastewater lines, meter work, and other related projects. Assist Construction Supervisor with ensuring all equipment and materials are available for successful completion of assigned projects and with administrative and supervisory responsibilities including training, appraising performance and disciplining assigned staff. Maintains safe working conditions for all employees and the public.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Other duties may be assigned.
Construction. Leads construction crews; assigns various job tasks and inspect completed work to ensure compliance with specifications. Alongside construction staff, perform repairs and construction for assigned City projects. Oversee pipe lining operations. Use mobile handheld device to enter work order information. Use mapping system to complete various tasks. Ensure that traffic control devices are set up properly.
Operate Equipment. Operate heavy equipment associated with underground utility construction and repair.
Safety. Ensure public and employee safety by adopting and enforcing safe work habits. Assist Supervisor with investigating damage, accidents, or delays at construction sites, to ensure that proper procedures are being carried out.
Supervisory/Administrative. Act on Supervisors behalf when the supervisor is unavailable in order to keep the project flowing smoothly. Assist Construction supervisor in training, appraising and disciplining construction crews. Assist Construction Supervisor with department administrative tasks. Perform related duties and assumes other responsibilities as apparent or as assigned.

Knowledge of:
- Materials, methods, and the tools involved in construction and repair.
- Blueprints and Construction drawings.
- Basic mathematic skills.
Computer/Office equipment Skills: Basic PC skills, prefer ability to use Microsoft Office products Outlook, Word and Excel.
Licenses:
Maintain valid drivers license and operate a vehicle observing legal and defensive driving practices. Must possess or obtain at least a Class B CDL within 6 months. Maintain heavy equipment operators license and/or training.

- Ability to work out of doors in all weather conditions for extended periods of time.
- Ability to lift at least 80 lbs. (average weight of a manhole cover)
- Climb up and down stairs/ladders.
- Operate a variety of power tools and heavy equipment.
- Ability to regularly lift and move up to 25 pounds.
Position will require the ability to work/ be available for overtime, standby and after-hour emergencies.

Position will require employee to work out of doors in all weather conditions for extended periods of time. Frequently working on slippery surfaces, some parts of the body may come into contact with oil, grease, wastewater, sludge, and other products associated with the treatment of sewage. Some work on ladders, scaffolds, or other equipment more than 12 feet above the ground. Occasionally work in confined spaces or cramped spaces may be necessary.
