JOB DESCRIPTION
DIESEL CONSTRUCTION MECHANIC
The Diesel Construction Mechanic position is responsible for the repair of all construction equipment, fleet equipment, and vehicles. This is a safety sensitive position.
Responsibilities and Duties:
The following list contains many of the duties to be performed but is not all inclusive. They are:
- Perform most work independently but sometimes work with the other mechanics.
- Perform minor and major repairs on equipment and vehicles independently.
- Perform diagnostics on equipment and vehicles.
- Maintain equipment software and service records (will train).
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment.
- Be able to safely operate equipment to test/check your repairs.
- Comply with established company safety and operating rules, procedures, and guidelines in a safe manner in order to avoid/prevent personal injury and equipment damage.
Qualifications:
A Diesel Construction Mechanic must meet the following requirements and standards:
- Be hard working, self-motivated, and have pride in doing the job correctly the first time.
- Be a team player, and also be able to work independently.
- Have knowledge and experience with: hydraulic systems, gas and diesel engines, electrical systems, drive trains, and equipment maintenance.
- Mechanical experience 2 years.
- Be able to communicate with the Lead Mechanic, Lube/Maintenance Mechanic, Job Foremen, and Project Managers on all aspects of equipment and vehicle repairs.
- Own basic repair tools (see minimum tool list).
- PA State Inspection license is a plus, but not mandatory.
- Show up to work on time every day.
- Have a valid drivers license (having or willing to obtain a commercial drivers license a plus).
- Be able to pass and maintain a valid DOT physical.
- Be able to occasionally lift and carry 100 lbs.
- Be able to climb, bend, stoop, and work in rough terrain in order to access equipment and make necessary repairs.
- Be able to work the hours necessary in order to achieve the goals of the company.
Work Hours:
- Monday-Friday (typical)
- 40 hours per week, with overtime available during the construction season
- Most Fridays off by noon
- Work schedule is always prone to change due to weather, job restrictions, unforeseen delays, etc
Work Environment:
Each work day will start at the Company's shop location at 175 Lamont Street in New Cumberland, PA. Your duties will be performed at this location or you will drive a company vehicle to any job site where needed. Typically, these locations will be in Pennsylvania. Because job sites are not shielded from the weather, working can include excessive heat, cold, wind, rain and other weather-related aspects. At times, work will be conducted on uneven terrain, at heights and near/over water.
