Role Description
This is a full-time on-site role at Masella Law Firm in Columbia, SC. The Family Law Legal Assistant will be responsible for assisting with communications with clients, drafting documents including pleadings, motions, communications, orders and the like. Providing personal assistance to the legal staff and administrative assistance, handling calendar, and utilizing clerical skills in support of the legal team.

Candidate must be detail oriented and able to multi-task while handling tasks accurately and promptly. If hired, you will assist Attorneys in developing injury cases from intake through settlement. The position entails extensive contact with clients, insurance adjusters, medical providers, other law firms, and court staff. Excellent organizational, writing, interpersonal and communication skills are essential. In addition, you will need to have experience working with legal case management systems.
Position Overview
Masella Law Firm, P.A. is seeking a full-time legal assistant/receptionist to join our family law team! The position serves as an administrative and legal support to the firm's Family Law Team. This individual will be working closely with the Legal Team. This position is responsible for direct contact and communication with clients, assisting in the preparation of legal documents and pleadings for court, organizing client portfolios, analyzing discovery documents and financial data. The legal assistant will provide essential administrative tasks including client communications, document preparation, filing, proofreading correspondence, and various other administrative tasks. Candidates should have a foundation of legal experience (preferably family), be client-centric, and have a collaborative team focus. The ideal candidate will also possess strong interpersonal skills, multi-tasking skills, maintain a proactive approach and an empathetic attitude in dealing with confidential client matters.
Key Responsibilities: :
Assist in manage all aspects of assigned cases, from start to finish
Assist in drafting discovery, pleadings, settlement agreements, correspondence, affidavits, financial declarations, and other legal documents
Prepare for hearings and trials, organize exhibits, file motions, coordinate witnesses
Coordinate activities with court personnel, court reporters, and process servers Obtains legal documents.
Performs administrative and client service functions.
Conducts basic research.
Assists with the drafting and completion of necessary documentation.
Assists with the filing of legal documents.
Assists with the management of databases and files.
Communicates regularly with clients.
Assists with other essential functions, as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills:
Experience in Family law is a benefit.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Must be able to work with clients with a smile on.
Must be detail oriented.
Good organizational, time management, and customer service skills.
Ability to work well independently.
Willingness and curiosity to learn.
Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
Experience in law firm environment a bonus
Valid driver's license and a reliable vehicle
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe; experience with Clio is a plus
